So I had a pretty good 45-50 mph shimmy and figured it was just a tire that was out of balance. I took it to a good local shop that after spending a lot of time on the balance finally figured out it had a bad joint on the drag link at its Pitman end. It was really worn out and sloppy. I was slapping my forehead when they showed that to me, I should have caught that myself.

So I rented a pickle fork and replaced it with a new https://www.rockjock4x4.com/CE-9701DLR?undefined=T&undefined=94.00&undefined=1&undefined=3. Great, took it for a test drive and it was better but still not completely shimmy free (it was not Death Wobble). So I had my wife do the quick turns on the steering wheel and I found the joint at the other end of the drag link was also worn out, though not as bad as the the Pitman-end joint was. So now I have a https://www.rockjock4x4.com/scs/my_account.ssp#purchases/view/salesorder/1212732 on order. This shit's not cheap lol! But at least they're the first parts I have ever had to replace on my Currectlync so I'm not complaining.

It’s all those Florida rocks you’ve been climbing Jerry.

How many miles would you estimate you have on it Jerry? I put mine on about 2 years ago. I know every Jeep is different and goes through different stuff throughout it's life, but I'm Just trying to get a ballpark idea of when I can start looking forward to this fun.

No idea since I bought this TJ used 13 years ago from Gerald at Savvy who owned it and installed the Currectlync. I will say those joints have seen some hard use. I installed the same Currectlync on my previous TJ and it was still fine when it was stolen.

Even if Gerald installed it just before he sold it to you, that's still a pretty good run for a Jeep that has tackled some of California's toughest terrain.

The same problem occurred on my '98 XJ with Currie steering several years ago...
The pitman arm TRE components would slight expand when torque was applied by the steering box.
Replacing the Currie TRE resolved the steering play and the slight vibrations while driving on the highway.

You can bet I won't be needing any more joints here lol.

Have you found any kind of Jeep stuff to do since being in Florida? You may have mentioned it in the past and I missed it. I imagine it's a big let down considering where you were.

Nothing that looks all that great. There is some kind of an offroad park roughly 90 miles south of me and I do have plans to take my step-grandson there once I get my shimmy removed. He'll be 10 soon so I'll let him drive on the dirt roads as much as he can handle. It claims to at least have a "rock garden" but I never found a photo of it. Here's a video from the park....

That looks way better than what I imagined was available. I imagine that could be a really, really muddy mess though. I'm sure he'll love that. :)

I need to buy a big lawn sprinkler to run at full pressure under the Jeep for a couple days after I go there. :ROFLMAO:

It works decently well, I've done it. 😀 I move it around every 10-15 minutes to get it from different angles. I've also done it after returning from the Outer Banks and driving on the beach, along with flushing out the frame.

I've also got this that I've used with my pressure washer.

Florida is at best a gigantic sandbar and at worst a swamp filled with mosquitoes and alligators (for the purposes of wheeling). I did find a gravel pit just outside of Orlando once what at least had some bumps and a couple hill climbs. Beaches, boats and mud bogging is what Florida is good for. Well and the occasional Spring Break video if your single and young enough to enjoy that kind of thing.

Sorry for the hijack.

You’re a good sport Jerry, and I’m glad you’ve found a great place to retire. I wish you could get some good wheelin in though, and I wish you could put some wear on those new joints

That might just happen John, I look forward to it barring any unforeseen events. And any event where we can make fun of and have fun with Andy would be a great event! :ROFLMAO:

Jerry- they are a bunch of perverts. Most of them are on a list somewhere.

Don’t get sucked in. 😂😂
