If you can find an air box for cheap I think it’s a way better option than cutting up and siliconing a wind star intake together.
When did TJ’s have a MAF sensor?I run a K&N, came with the jeep. kinda want to go back to stock but it hasn't killed the engine yet. @Chris if you still have your stock box, I'd be willing to trade you. ( I have an 01 so no MAF port)

maybe it was MAP? all I remember is the 04 and up boxes are different cause of some sensors and I cant use those. When did TJ’s have a MAF sensor?
yeah, I'm thinking I'm going to go to the junkyard sometime and pull a Windstar intake for the cowl, seems like the best option.Mine didn't come with a stock airbox unfortunately as the GenRight fenders were already installed. I don't blame you though, given the choice (if I could fit it), I too would go back to the stock airbox. I like @Lou's setup the best so far.
I believe they had an intake temp sensor on the pipe.maybe it was MAP? all I remember is the 04 and up boxes are different cause of some sensors and I cant use those.
I have one of those, if I have some free time latter ill go dig up the answer and report back.I believe they had an intake temp sensor on the pipe.
did they move the sensor and the 01's have them somewhere else? my PCM feeds me an intake air temp, but there's no sensor on my intake tubeThe sensor in the later intakes was indeed the intake air temp sensor. TJ's have never had a MAF.
I run a Windstar cowl intake with a paper filter.
Love this setup but can't seem to find one that looks quite the same. Saw one on ebay but it looks a little different.Early 90s 3.3 Buick century air box works great. 2x small P-clamps and a 3.5”-2.5” silicone reducer. Can even turn it into a cowl intake if you like.

It’s on the intake manifold.did they move the sensor and the 01's have them somewhere else? my PCM feeds me an intake air temp, but there's no sensor on my intake tube
Don't mean to challenge whether or not your right, just trying to learn more about my Jeep.
also, what do you think of the Windstar, pro's, con's? It's on my list as my next mod.

Yup, earlier ones are on the intake manifold. It's more prone to heat soak. Just swapping it though isn't necessarily the best idea since I'm sure the factory tuned for either location.did they move the sensor and the 01's have them somewhere else? my PCM feeds me an intake air temp, but there's no sensor on my intake tube

my K&N as an annoying whistle at part throttle, still there on the Windstar? I'm getting used to it slowly, but I would rather not have to.Y

Windstar intake allows you to route the actual intake opening much more easily while retaining the factory style filter. Mine is chopped up and modified for much more flow, and I routed it into the cowl to keep it away from water and the engine heat. For mer herse-pers.

The whistle is coming from the throttle body or how it mounts to the intake. Routing the intake into the cowl will dramatically amplify any intake noises you are hearing. You'll get some new ones too.my K&N as an annoying whistle at part throttle, still there on the Windstar? I'm getting used to it slowly, but I would rather not have to.
I did. STAR station guy questioned it but I just said it was the oem box with the bellows removed since my fenders didn’t allow the box to mount to the fender anymore. He stared at it and said ok.Have you passed a SMOG inspection with that set-up?
