What experience or advise do you have on this change of a Dana 44. Also what year and models of 8.8 are good choices.

For the amount of work to adapt the 8.8 control arm mounts over to the Jeep along with emergency brakes and brake lines; would it not be money better spent to just strengthen the Dana 44 if that is what you are trying to do.
I believe the 8.8 from the '98 Ford Explorer with disc brakes is desirable.

IIRC the 8.8 will require a shorter (~3/4") drive shaft.
Is this just a matter of cost or do you actually WANT that 8.8 back there?

I have an 8.8 but I would build up the 44 if I had it. 8.8 is heavy too. I wouldn’t think about 8.8 unless possibly moving to 37s or something down the line.
I had a Dana 35 but in thinking back on it I may have done the super 35 kit with my Dana 35
