Hey everyone.

I’ve come to terms with the fact that my frame is not a good candidate for a frame cap.

But I’m having a huge issue sourcing a frame in the north east!

I’ve already purchased frame caps. There is a pre sandblasted frame on marketplace right now that needs the rear trail arms replaced.

Are there any negatives to having a frame capped-frame vs an OEM one? Should I just keep waiting or drive out west?

Thank you,

I'd keep waiting and looking out west.

A clean factory frame is going to be a lot better for resale value, that's for sure.

I think the biggest negative would be resale. But you live in the NE. EVERYTHING IS RUST. If you get a nice frame down S or out W, you wouldn’t want to drive it during winter unless you wanted to ruin that frame. Replacing the trail arm brackets on the pre-sandblasted frame shouldn’t be hard. If the price is right…

If you're going to go through the work of a frame swap, don't swap in a frame that still needs repair. Either get a perfect frame or fix the one you have.

It would cost me about 800$ between purchasing and replacing the trail arms.

That’s the only thing that’s making the decision to wait hard.

Both trail arms have quarter size holes. I’ll look at the frame in person tomorrow

I swapped in winter of 2019/2020. Took me about 5 months to find a frame that wasn't a project in it's own right. The frame I ended up with was from a flood-victim Jeep from Florida. I cleaned it and Eastwooded the interior of it. Worst part of the swap was the rusted torque boxes on the body tub, and all of the drivetrain and suspension bolts that were rusted beyond saving.
