I had new pads installed on 01 Tj and drove home and could smell brakes but not bad. Drove it a couple hundred miles and no problems until yesterday when I drove to town and back which is about 4 miles both front brakes were smoking. I let it set for several hours then it was fine again. What’s going on??

Sounds like your calipers are sticking; you can rebuild or replace those. Or the pads could be binding on dirt/rust/etc. If you had the work done at a shop, definitely take it back and see what they say.

The installing shop likely pushed the brake pistons in loaded with dirt while installing the pads causing them to hang up. Common problem when you don't know what you're doing when replacing brake pads.

I'd flush the brake lines and install new Centric Premium calipers. Raybestos or Wagner would be fine too. Don't get the left & right side calipers mixed up or you won't be able to bleed the air out of the brake lines.
