Actually, I do like it. You reminded me about it. I'm considering something like this. It's a lot of work though. And I'd have to upgrade my panel to have the big screen there, which I'm a little reluctant to do at the moment. Overall, your solution is the best.

The display is the barrier to entry to it that's for sure then it's just buying $12 cameras and a $25 switch if needed. Some displays have mutliple inputs which could eliminate the need for the switch.

If you do it I'd recommend Crutchfield for the stereo as they will package the bezel and everything needed to install it. Cameras and switch if needed are easy to find on Amazon.

Seems like if you're already installing multiple cameras it be cool to have them record and work as dash cams without the stupid box hanging from the windshield. Like an aftermarket tesla style system. I searched for "car dvr" and found these. I like the 1st one's 360 degree bird's eye view:

Sorry should have mentioned, I use a SPod to trigger it.

Far left switch: middle position is front. Left or right arrows is a front tire

Howdy, @Apparition ! I'm looking to duplicate your camera system. If you don't mind, can you please tell me where you got that switch on the left above? I tried OTRATTW for a three-position Contura, and they are out of stock until February. I'm hoping there's another source...

Yes, the arrows on top and bottom are illuminated based on their selection. The part that says front camera is not.
