Greetings all:
I'm a newbie who has just joined the group and recently obtained 2004 LJ. I've owned a 1954 Willys Pickup since 1995 and it sits next to the 2004. So, I've been into the Jeep stuff going back for some time, although the 1954 is a very different machine. First of all, I would like to thank all of you who have contributed to this forum. I've benefited greatly from your advice, and it has helped me wrenching on this beautiful 2004 Jeep!

I have a ton of questions, but the one immediately in front of me is I am going to replace my fuel injectors and fuel rail. My Jeep has 153K miles on it, and four of the five injectors are original. The fuel rail is crusty. The #1 injector was replaced by the PO and it looks like they went really cheap with the replacement. Having said that, I have heard of challenges related to extracting old injectors from the intake manifold and them being stuck. Any advice on how to make this go smoother? Pre-spraying with solvent etc? I'm not too concerned about the old ones as they are getting tossed.

Thank you in advance for your advice!

Steve.

I went with Precision Auto Injector and got a rebuilt factory Siemens set for my 97 balanced and everything.

Prompt good service.

Welcome.

Why is not the question. I have replaced almost every part to improve idle and this is the last area I am working on. In addition this Jeep will be driven from Chicago to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (720 miles round trip not including travel up there) to hike, fish, hunt etc. where I go, there is zero cell service. I am focused on reliability and performance.

Thank you for confirming! Based on what I read here, that was where I purchased my injectors. Did you have any challenges trying to pull your old ones?

Injectors are something that either work or don't. They're not a preventative maintenance kind of thing. Do what you want to, but if you start replacing good working parts, expect to open a can of worms.

Nope...they came right out. Always check and make sure you don't leave an o-ring in the rail.

Consider a DEI heat shield for the rail.

I scuffed my rail up and painted it black.

Dab of dielectric grease and they slid right back in.

Thank you Mac. I have one heat shield on the manifold and will look at another for the rail. Thank you again!

One other trivial thing Mac.... My '54 Willys was originally an Oregon Truck. I don't have too much history on it, but it did come from Oregon when I purchased it.
