Hello!

I was having issues with my fuel pump priming. PO replaced OEM fuel pump with something crappy. So I got an OEM fuel pump from Dead Jeep and put a new filter on it. I did buy a new regulator, but didn't install because Dead Jeep tested this pump and it's all working fine according to them.

It's been a few weeks since I installed and all is well. Well, except that I didn't get the fuel line connected all the way and it disconnected on me last night. Messy. But that's fixed now. I was having intermittent staring issues (long crank time) which makes sense with the whole fuel line issues.

Now however, I am still having a 3-4 sec crank time before the jeep will start after it's been sitting for a while (15-20 min). Once it's started I can turn it off/on as much as I want and it fires right up. I am wondering if it could be the internal check valve on the pump?

I'm trying to stay away from getting another pump if I can. Has anyone used this product? https://surrauto.com/kits/ckv5-ckv7/ I saw it posted in another jeep forum but I couldn't find anyone using it here. Thoughts?

About your fuel line, is the clip broken? If so you can use a ziptie in place of the clip and crank it down HARD and give it the pull test. Usually the check valve being bad usually causes warm starts to be much more difficult. Cold starts not so much since the fuel pump primes.

Every time you start the Jeep, cold or hot, cycle the key 4-5 times and listen for the fuel pump. If your hard starts vanish, the check valve is almost guaranteed bad. Personally, if the sending unit is working and the fuel pump is newer, I would just cycle the key a few times before starting it when hot.

You can just replace the regulator... maybe even swap the regulator over from your original pump...i'd use a new o-ring.

I just threw a BrutePower $58 fuel pump assembly from Rock Auto on my 97. It's been working for a couple of days no issues. No long term reviews for a while.

I do have a new regulator that I will stick in. I just don’t want to drop the tank again yet 😂

I don’t know the brand of the one that was in it from the PO but it was some auopart store special. I found a recipient from the shop that put it in from 2019.

I replaced a lot of the studs/bolts with nutserts. Filler neck is held on with four pan head Allen bolts. All the rear bolts are M8 stainless nutserts.

Dropped it enough times I can have it in and out inside of an hour.

Hopefully I won't have to do it again for a while...but eventually I want to do a body lift...and raise the fuel tank...so I know it's coming back out again.
