I get a laugh every time I see the news. It seems that the Twitterverse (at least that's where I think it's coming from) has coined a variety of terms to describe anyone they deem evil.

That being said, let's list some of the funny terms we've seen used in the news in this day and age.

So far this is what I've got:
  • White privilege
  • Toxic masculinity
  • Mansplaining
  • Manspreading
Anyone else found any funny terms like this?

How are those PC terms? I mean, I always thought PC was from when there were arguments about whether to say black vs African American or Merry Christmas vs Happy Holidays. Those terms are just new words to describe stuff people have been talking about for a long time, right?

I thought of another one, “cultural appropriation”.

PC isn’t the right word. I’m not sure what to call the thread title other than possibly “phrases used by the mainstream media”.

I like
*Cisgender
*Non-binary gender
*Woke
*Patriarchy
*Social justice warrior

I find the phrase "mainstream media" itself to be funny.

IMO, if they were still "mainstream" they would've had enough influence to get the election result they wanted back in 2016. I think "dinosaur media" actually is a closer description although I don't use it myself. Too many outlets have folded up shop due to being unable to adapt to "that internet fad".

Seems like a good term but they never seem to melt away, yet they can't help but turn to water (tears).
I nicknamed (and use it with them) our morning news teams "Snowflake, Buttercup, and Weasel". After two years they have yet to be able to figure out which name goes with which person :)

I keep remembering how they kept referring to all the "polls" that showed Hillary winning.

Now whenever I see a news article with the word "poll" in the title, I laugh. Are you kidding me? These people still think that their little "polls" matter after Trump's whopper of a win?

If that didn't discredit their polls, I'm not sure what else could.

And yes, I know some will argue that Trump didn't win the popular vote and blah, blah, blah. I don't really care, his win still proved all those polls were wrong.

They should all use the same title of "Entertainment Tonight", because entertainment is the only real value. Even the local "weather-guesser" isn't worth my time, anymore. I'm so fed up with the entire lot...

Ever notice people that understand the Constitution and how the Electoral College work never use that "popular vote" argument even if their candidate lost?

Today I was surprised when CBS dumped out of the announcement in the Rose Garden to fully air The Price Is Right. All the other networks that were not in local time carried everything to the conclusion after the Q&A.

I kid you not Squatch, our evening weather gal's degree is in Geology.

Kind of like how "breaking news" or "news alert" are plastered over pretty much any news story on TV these days.

Wonder what term they'll have to use if it really is some sort of epic natural disaster or all out war? We've all become desensitized to the typical phrases.

Yea, a lot of that is also like news sources that use words like "Slammed" and "Blasts" to describe any time someone says anything critical about anything. And of course, certain places love to post these headlines

It's like having high school kids describing a fight.

Agreed! They do it all for the clickbait headlines like I've said in previous posts. The more clicks they get, the more money they make.

I think a lot of what they report as "slammed" or "blasts" is simply taken out of context. I really hate that some outlets resort to using those terms. In my mind, anyone using headlines like that isn't reporting real news.

Yea, it's like somewhere, some journalist brings up a report to their boss with a headline like "Trump criticizes Ocasio-Cortez on blah blah blah" and their boss tells them that it's too boring and changes it to "TRUMP SLAMS DARLING FRESHMAN SOCIALIST AOC FOR BLAH BLAH BLAH". Whatever language they can throw in there to get people worked up and bunkered down with their own pre-disposed biases.

I have no doubt there is someone at those outlet whose job it is to drive home that all articles should have controversial or catchy headlines.

If anyone working there knows how things work these days, they know that it takes something catchy to make people click on it. I see those articles all the time where they use those words, and it really pisses me off. Especially because they make it sound like some sort of high school drama. But, I have no doubt it works well for them. While I don't click on them, I'd be willing to bet a crap ton of people do.
