That might be my next best purchase. I’ve been having trouble with my 98 with a 2.5
I had a post on here about cam and crank sensor issue. Then I had to repair an exhaust leak and remove a squeal with the belt so I could work on
The fact this jeep has been running worse the longer I own it.

To get you up to speed. I have reconnected ground cables, changed the oil pressure sensor, starter, throttle body sensor, cam sensor, crank sensor, plugs, wires, cap and rotor.
No matter what I do or change it seems to fix the running on this jeep, then the next time I start it the engine light comes on, and it runs like crap again.
Each time it had a different code and I changed that sensor.

Last night I put the old cam sensor back in because I honestly could not get this engine to run correctly, it ran smooth…….. for a little while, then started sputtering again and died.
Ding ding ding engine light comes on and this time is was p0505 automatic idle speed or IAC. So I tried cleaning that with throttle body cleaner. Cleared the code, started the jeep, ran good for a while……. Then sputtered until it died.

This time when starting it back up, it wouldn’t fire, found we had no spark at the coil wire. Oddly enough my gut was telling me computer issue. So I un plugged the 3 fat cables from the computer, cleaned them, plugged them back in and the Jeep started. Ran good again …… until it didn’t and died. Tried starting again and no spark.
This is the point where I drive home and envisioned stopping at the gas station :)
Fast forward to tonight, I seat the jeep and wouldn’t you know it starts…… runs fantastic…… until it sputters and died again.

Engine light on and this time ISA and crank sensor. It’s like this jeep has a ghost in it. Now where did I put that match……………

Can ANYONE shed some light on the insanity that I have going on. I’m leaning to a PCM issue, however I truly need help.

Have you deloomed the wiring harness and inspected everything? I seen to recall you've done all this and checked all your grounds?

This maybe your next step. Has a clapped out 4.0 Jeep junkyard tube buggy at the off-road park this weekend that wouldn’t run. Towed it back to camp and tested everything. Ended up being a partially plugged in ECM connector. Clicked it all the way in and it’s perfect again. Sometimes it’s simple, sometimes it isn’t.

I've literally never found this to NOT be a fruitful exercise on a TJ. You might not find the source of your specific problem in there, but you will find something that needs to be addressed.

What do you mean by de loomed ? Yes I did check all the grounds. Tats where i originally started. Because there was the ground to the engine that had been disconnected.

Often times it means taking the entire harness (or that section) out of the jeep, removing the loom & tape, and inspecting every inch of every wire for insulation breaks, etc. Good practice is to test continuity on each wire. Best practice would be to put a test light on each wire, which can tell you more than a continuity test can.
