Gear failure

Check out this ring gear. It's from another forum I'm on with overlanding stuff. Guy had 4.56 gears "professionally installed".
Check the wear pattern on the ring gear. Is it me or does it look like his pinion depth was too shallow.

Hard to say just by the pic. Breakage on the toe like that is usually just stress induced. The drive side does have some odd markings.
