On late night rides in my TJ, with the top down, our local county deputies are pulling me over ...3 times this summer....

without probable cause ...

I realize my TJ looks like a party wagon , and they are hoping for 2 teenagers with a buzz .

How would you guys handle it ?

I realize the times we live in...when I was a kid you could go in the store with a dollar and come out with a coke and 2 candy bars , but now they have cameras everywhere.

Anyway , it's getting annoying .

I remember getting pulling over on the freeway overhere saying that I was going a little too fast ...I was doing 104kmph in a 100kmph area, I guess it was slow night for the 5-0 that night.
When they told me the speed I replied 'Sorry I didn't think my Jeep could go that fast'...They laughed and gave me a warning.

I’ve been pulled over 5 times in 5 years of driving. Even had to do a heel to toe walk on a white line as a sobriety test (when I was 17 and absolutely dead sober).

The first time I got pulled over in Illinois after moving here, the officer asked “how many weapons are in the vehicle” instead of “are there any weapons in the vehicle”.

Maybe I’m lucky. I have no license plate light, tires that stick out from the fenders, an expired inspection sticker from PA, and speed everywhere I go because I have no speedo... I don’t know how it is possible to get pulled over anymore.

Over here the Police have hand held machines that you asked to say your name into and it detects if you have any alcohol on your breath and if your over the limit.
I once said my name was 'Michael Jackson' and the policeman said 'Say your real name please sir' to which I replied 'Wow, is that machine a lie -detector too? '..the Police officer didn't think it was as funny as I did.

They don’t need probable cause to pull you over, really just a reasonable suspicion that something is up. Unless you’re willing to swap in a Camry or stop driving at that time of night you’re probably in for more of the same. Once pulled over you’d be wise to follow the immortal words of Chris Rock, this never gets old

I like to remind people if when they do get pulled over and get that warning or even a ticket once.... * Remember all the times you were not pulled over and probably deserved to be and got away with it. I can virtually guarantee we are all way ahead in that count. I know I am..

I'm glad they are out trying... As you said the times we live in have dictated all this

I got pulled over for a busted windshield last year. But I also pulled out of a parking lot and jumped 3 lanes of traffic to get to the turning lane I needed to be in which probably peaked his interest.

Been pulled over a number of times when I was younger, and got damn lucky it was only a ticket or a warning. I am far more laid back and careful as I get older.

Maybe your steering is so loose your Jeep just looks like it's drunk driving?

I have so many out of CA spec things on my Jeep and never get pulled over. Maybe my 3 speed means I can't even maintain a speeding speed without killing the engine.

My only ticket is from someone who parked in the middle of a spot between two driveways. I think they were trying to save the spot. TJs are short enough I just parked in front of them. They called to say I was in their driveway. I wasn't. But they cited me for no front plate.

I got pulled over when my TJ was literally covered in Mud only the windshield was clean and parts of the side windows for I can see my side view mirrors. I got 3 tickets speeding going 60 in a 65😂 following to close supposably and unsafe speed during traffic. I fought the ticket with ticket-cleaners and all 3 were dismissed. He didn’t even mention my tires were passed my fenders or say anything about all the mud. I felt like my TJ stood out being lifted and covered in mud.

Reactions: TJ Starting
I was pulled over last fall leaving a bar. I had nothing to drink and was going 5mph under the speed limit; turns out my green TJ matched the description of a local drug dealer. First they lied and claimed they had footage of me tossing drugs out the window. When I called their bluff and they realized they had the wrong guy, they still wanted to search the car for drugs. I politely responded that I had just purchased the vehicle a few weeks earlier and I did not know the previous owner or what he may have hidden under the carpeting. They tried to use this as an admission of guilt, and therefore probable cause for them to search the Jeep, but I politely explained that I knew my rights and had no problem waking my lawyer up.

Finally they let me go, and I tore the carpeting out the next morning to make sure there weren't any "surprises" from the PO. You never know...

Having worked on cars for 15 years, I've found all sorts of stuff people have hidden in vehicles in odd places. Loaded guns, switchblades and machetes, drugs and paraphernalia , porn and sex toys, large sums of money, risque or questionable photos, all sorts of things that might raise a cop's suspicion. Don't ever assume a used car has been thoroughly cleaned out.

Funny you mention that... I bought a JKUR Rubicon a few years ago and always wondered what the PO did for a living. Found a quarter pound of pot behind the glove box cleaning it one day. Lol. I was then thinking wtf would happen if I got pulled over and sniffed by a dog. How do you explain that ?!
