So my kit will be here in a couple of days for my 2002. Will I be reinstalling the transfer case balancer or not?

Should I worry about getting all 4 adjustable rear control arms or just the uppers? I think I saw where Chris suggested Core 4x4 as a decent budget minded option for these?

Thanks for the help!

Balancer will not be used and yes upper adjustables are all that’s needed. Core 4x4 tier 3 is a good option.

Core 4x4 no longer has the tier 1 to 4 product grading. They are now Cruise, Camp and Crawl. I have the old tier 2 Front upper, front lower and rear upper and just bought the Camp Rear Lower to finish. They are really beefy with a bushing at one end and Johnny Joint at the other. Thier tech support is great—give them a call for a recommendation.

I needed the rear lowers to center the axle in the wheel well with 4” lift. Core 4x4 said in rough terms the lower arms adjust the forward and back axle (tire) position in the wheel well and then the upper arms adjust to set the pinion angle (Caster on front axle). You can use just upper adjustable control arms if you are happy with the wheel position. As lift Is increased and axle drops down it swings forward on the arc of the lower control arm.

I am very happy with my Core 4x4 purchases.

I was afraid of that. I just ordered the camp set of uppers, I'll see what it looks like but may need to purchase the lowers as well. Thanks guys!

DUB,

In your Profile you state you have a small lift... 2" ?
Approximately 18 months ago I installed an SYE in my '01 with a 2" lift.
After doing the measurements for driveshaft to pinion angles; I determined that had 1* difference.
I did not install the rear adjustable Tier 3 Core 4x4 UCAs and have been vibration free since then.
Recommend that once you have the SYE installed and DC driveshaft in place; do the pinion to driveshaft measurements.
You may find like I did; the adjustable rear UCAs are not needed.

Yes, I have 2.5" springs.. I'll measure it all out and see where it's at!

I’ve been looking at an sye for my TJ since with 4” lift the angles are more severe—even though I have the pinion ujoint and slip yoke ujoint angles to the driveshaft the same I have vibration at some speeds. With 2.5” if the pinion to driveshaft angle is near 0, you may not need adjustable arms. This diagram from Tom Woods Driveshafts’ website shows the proper geometry.

When you open up your transfer case to install the SYE, be sure to get your mode ring re-installed correctly. It's easy to put it in backward, and then the TC won't shift right. Just look at the two photos in this thread to see how it goes.
