Here's an interesting anecdote. I just have the little unity gain GMRS antenna that came with my GMRS radio. It has great VSWR. When I installed and tuned my ham setup with a dual band "Diamond" antenna, just for kicks I attached it to the GMRS temporarily. Had horrid, and I mean HORRID, SWR. I couldn't tune it out very much either. On the Ham side, it tuned out nicely, and was great EVEN ON GMRS frequencies! So why the Diamond wouldn't tune on the GMRS radio is beyond me - I can only think that Midland is perhaps playing games with their output impedance so you have to use their antennas? *shrug*
