First car I ever had was a JEEP
I was 13 working in a retirement home kitchen washing dishes. But I knew what I wanted.....a JEEP!
When I was 14-1/2 I had enough to buy this beauty. 1974 CJ-5 304 V8 3 speed manual
When I turned 15 I tagged it, paid insurance on it, and drove it everywhere I could (with my mom beside me because I couldn't fly solo till I was 16)
By 17 I had so many tickets for spinning tires and speeding I was forced to sell it by my mother and buy a more college appropriate car (1985 ford escort)
When I turned 30 I tried to recapture that youth
By buying an old rustbucket 1976 CJ-7
I worked on that thing for 3 years and DAMN near got finished
Before the first wife decided she didn't want to be MY wife any more. So I had to sell her.
Enter the second wife. "She's a Beaut Clark!" She decided that since my mother made me sell my first Jeep, and my ex (essentially) decided to make me sell my second Jeep....she sent me on a mission to get my 3rd!
So this past April, that's what I did! Initially I wanted a rig I could beat on. THAT generally means one that isn't very "cute" as my wife says. Well..I found the one I wanted. It had 8.8 rear and 44 front, detroits Fr & Rr, long arms, and 37" iroks. But it's top speed was 58mpg. But BY GOLLY She'd roll over ANYTHING.
The wife said "I can't even get IN this thing"....and "This looks a little RED"
Yes..I married a princess, and yes, that meant "redneck" which is ironic given I own so much flannel....but anyway..I wanted to please HER too. To do that, I had to travel 6hrs to get the one we BOTH wanted, but I found a GEM of a 2002 Sahara that was unmolested. It was driven by the WIFE of the owner of a ford dealer. ALL original, and looked like it had JUST rolled off the showroom floor...even WITH 112k on the clock. SO, I loaded her up and brought her home
She came with hard top, and 3 soft tops.
It really didn't take long for me to start modding her out. The tires were brand new, so I felt bad about buying new tires, but I sold them for $700 so I didn't feel bad for long
I started with a Zone 4.25 lift and installed it myself, and then went with Mickeys and Fuel revolvers.
And to keep with my ideology, I had to have a custom plate
NEXT it was time for some offroading!!! Heade to Uwharrie for the Jamborie with a buddy of mine who wholesales Military trucks
But there were trails I was denied, so I need lockers...BUT...the BOY loves driving it, and my WIFE loves to "bee-bop" around town in it...so Detroits are out of the question. I KNOW I'll have a wheel or 2 off the ground at URE so Trutracs are out of the question. ARB's would be the shiznit...but honestly, E-lockers fit my needs. So I headed down to ECGS to have them install some expensive toggle switches
Next it was time for a winch...and some diff covers
