Well, the ten day anniversary road trip is to Hell's Canyon / the Snake River area this year.

Looking for guidance on where to go and what to see. It looks like it's a classic "you can't get there from here" scenario as far as actually getting to the river in most places. Wilderness area, wild and scenic river, yada, yada.

Three roads seem to get close. Hell's Canyon road on the Idaho side. FSR4260 that may or may not be passable. (Jeepable?) Deer Creek road to Pittsburgh landing.

If anyone has experience and insight into the area, I'd appreciate hearing about it.

The timeframe is the first week of September.

Thanks a bunch!

I was down on the Snake River a few weeks back, had a good time exploring but did not cross over into OR we just stayed on the ID side of things.

I believe this would be a good place to go though, right up your alley! http://www.nrtdatabase.org/trailDetail.php?recordID=3343 There would be plenty of dispersed camping opportunities, good forest road type access with some fun spots, and plenty of amazing views!
