Well crap! What seal do I want? Will the 46470 fit in there?

No. Read my posts again. The 46470 goes at the diff, but on a CAD axle, it ONLY fits at the left side. On a TJ or XJ non-CAD axle, it goes on both sides of the diff.

The CAD seal is only used if you keep a 2 piece axle. If you do not put a 2 piece YJ or XJ axle set back in, then you will not use the CAD seal, you will install the 11800 in the right side axle tube near the diff.

The long axle shaft does not have a seal surface on it at the cad end of things, so a seal installed there will just be torn up immediately.

Make your pick: pick up the 2 piece axle shafts and lock them together with a perma lock kit and install the 42500 seal

OR

keep the 1 piece TJ axle and install the 11800 seal right near the diff in the axle tube and coat it with gear oil RTV. Those are the only options.

I was able to cancel my Amazon order!

Both side are in. I’m don’t pissing with them. One went in the wheel side of the CAD. The other in the left side of the diff.

Not sure how much oil will move over there towards the CAD unit. I’ll have to keep an eye on the diff level and add to it until it finally stops flowing over there?

I guess it is what it will be for now! I’ll keep an eye on it.

I know the diff had oil in it when I put it on my stand. I know the CAD had some oil in it when I took the cover off. That might have been just from moving it around, IDK. I know the “seal” that was in the wheel side of the CAD(as pictured above) wouldn’t have held a fart in. I know it has got to be better than it was.

I cut it open once I can do it again if need be, even under the Jeep. For now I’m sealing it back up and getting to the truss kit.

Oil didn’t get down to the CAD before because there was a seal installed in the right side of the diff, similar to where the 11800 is supposed to go.

The seal you just installed will essentially not do much of anything because it is going to drag on a part of the shaft that is not meant for a seal. If oil does make it out there, it will leak.

I never tampered with the right side diff seal. It’s still in there, untouched. While I fully understand what you are stating about the outer CAD seal not sealing, I must disagree with the “not much of anything”.

I’m sure it’ll likely melt away a little bit. But dang, it’s got to be at least a small fraction better than the gaping loose seal I removed. Thanks again for your time and patience in explaining it all.

That CAD is welded closed again. I was able to crop the two vertical truss supports to work around the CAD housing. I hope to have it welded out tmw, brackets included. Those are a hair trickier since this particular kit does not have placement reliefs cut into the truss.

It will keep stuff from the exterior from going up the tube, at least. When I said it won’t do much, I meant because if fluid got to it, it would probably leak right past it. However, since you still have the added diff seal, so fluid should ever make it that far anyways. Should be good.
