So I have a 99 TJ that was my daughter's that has barely been driven the last two years, been in my garage and the battery is now dead of course. Got her a new car and took over this old one and finally getting around to selling it but have no idea how to price, how to gauge a description of its condition. No modifications, has a soft top that is not old in great condition, and a hard top. She added some sort of metal thing to the front replacing the bumper. Has 140k miles. When she got it 6 years ago I think it was, I had put a few thousand into it for all the usual things, breaks etc.... and I have all that printed out. There is rust on the lower part of the doors, some fading and scratches, it's a not common color sort of dark blueish sort of little purpleish depending on the lighting, I know she said it was a special color. I read some post as it seems the biggest concern is frame rust. How to I check for that? What photo do I take to show that? When I do list I want a fair price and for it to be well described so I'm not showing this thing over and over and over.

Post pics here for honest assessments of the value. Being in MI, I'm guessing it's a rust bucket. I've sold 18 of my Jeeps and always got my firm asking price. I'm not delusional either on what they're worth. Good luck.

😉😉😉 Yea but you price them as to what you pay for them ! And we know when you look at a JEEP they are asking $10k for, you somehow negotiate it to $5k while holding a gun to their head.....🤣

True, but I know what a good deal is, and I can still try
to "not lose" money. I sold my 03' auto with 27.000 miles, lifted on new 35" tires to a delaership for $14,000 and made money.

You really have to post pictures. Jeeps are prone to rust and that would drastically effect the price. Post pictures of the outside, the inside, the rust and the undercarriage, especially the frame rails. If it is a rust bucket, it is basically worthless to anyone that would inspect it. If it looks good on the outside and the interior, but it is a rust bucket, then you might be able to sell it to someone who doesn't know about a Jeeps rust issues. Then, it is a moral issue for the seller. You may get yourself into trouble that way, if you try to ignore the moral issues. You can get a good idea from Jeeps posted for sale on other sites of the pictures to take.

Thanks to all of you, I was told could do better parting it out, as the soft top and that thing on the front are quite new and in great shape. Here is the pictures, tried to show all the worst parts.

Maybe try and sell as is. Pain in the butt selling parts. Have it sitting around all apart, people dont come, want you to help take apart for $50 bucks, etc etc.
Try and sell to guy that parts out Jeeps. Maybe sell top yourself ??

Sorry to see that. Yeah, that's pretty bad. That's kind of what happens when you live in the rust belt states. Some people hate on California, and it's expensive as hell out here, but I've had no rust on my 97 Wrangler in 27 years. Crossing fingers🤞
Good luck.

Thanks again, so then it seems like even just donating it may be worth it, as the time spent trying to sell may not be worth it (and having to guy a battery as I need it to start for any buyer). I assume you are all thinking it is something that sell for less than 2000? less than 1000?
