How much oil does your York OBA compressor spit?

I will try blocking the head port tomorrow..

what pressure is everyone's pressure-switch turning off the compressor? Mine does not cut-off until 145psi - at that pressure the compressor starts getting noisy and thats when the most oil blows by.. i'm thinking a lower-pressure cutoff switch, like 110psi or 120psi might be better.

I have a 120 PSI switch for mine but a 100-120 PSI would be fine.

Some more York info for those looking at this.

I have 2 spare York compressors I had bought for other projects that never happened. If anyone in the PNW area is interested I'll let them go cheap. But shipping would not be your friend so it's a come and get them sort of thing.

For anyone thinking about this type of setup for OBA, I have to say it is probably the best upgrade on the Jeep.. unfortunately in our case it has also been the biggest trouble-maker since we got the Jeep a few months ago.. the required longer serpentine belt is causing issues with the replacement belt-tensioner we installed, the oil-coalescing filter had to be replaced, its blown some (very old) hoses, and now this oil-spitting issue.. BUT, we're working each problem !

I just put a York in my TJ. Just the few instances that I have used it, it did not seem to spit out a lot of oil. I did do the port mod prior to installing the compressor. Also, the setup I used (got the install kit from C.U. Offroad) did not require a longer serpentine. It uses a double pulley on the alternator and a secondary belt for the compressor. It was pretty slick, but not cheap. I got the 210 York from Ebay. I have my pressure cutting of at 140 and back on at 120. Mine does not struggle at the higher pressure. Maybe cause the compressor is brand new? I did not plumb my tank in-line.

According to some technical manuals I read somewhere on the York 210 compressor, you only need about 8 oz. of oil in it. Could the spitting of oil increase if it is slightly overfilled?

I'm not sure how much the shipping would be, but I'd be interested in one. I shipped a 25lb box with lower control arms for less than $20 through UPS. If you pay online you can use discount codes that saved me like $20 or something crazy.

A couple things I did in my install. It doesn’t puke oil and my compressor is from the 80s.

I used a 10’ length of braided ptfe hose. I cooled it up and used the entire 10’ thinking the extra length might give the air a chance to cool.

I added some Lucas oil stabilizer which increases the viscosity of the oil and supposedly helps it remain coated.

Use a high quality oil filter with a metal bowl. I bought a WILKERSON M28-04-BL00 off eBay for cheap.

Vixen horns on amazon make a pressure switch that is high quality and comes with a rubber dust boot. I used a 80-100.

So i was all excited this morning to block the port "The easy way" as outlined on this page:
https://www.rockcrawler.com/techreports/york_mod/index.asp

but after cracking open the pump, i see that the head does not have the small hole to jam the sheetmetal screw into (see image)

...Sooo.. FML ..

But i DID find that the upper cavities on each side of the pistons were about 1/2 full of oil .. it looks like the normal place for the oil is in the lower part of the casing. That's where the oil-fill hole goes to - is it normal for these top-end cavities to have so much oil?

Yes if it is over filled it will puke more oil. You want between 6-8oz of oil in it.

Let me think about this. I really wasn't interested in trying to ship these. I don't have the time right now at this point but in a month or so I might.

Interesting? I wonder why yours doesn't have the port shown in that mod thread. It's been too long since I have had mine apart to tell you about the oil.

No worry! If you find yourself wanting to lighten up the shelf once the mid-arm swap is done shoot me a PM. Figured I'd throw it out there.

The hole you need to plug is in the body of the compressor, not the head. Most just access it through the head by taking the top plate off and leaving the second plate on.

The hole is on the suction side of the body. I think it is the one here I circled in blue:

You can also plug the same hole on the other end near where it comes out by the pulley shaft, but the top is the easiest. If that hole is not plugged, that would be why you do not have any oil in the suction side. it is just getting sucked into the air lines and spitting that oil all over.

Oh, BTW when I did my mod, there was only one hole. I would guess they are all that way. One hole. On the suction side. You really can't screw this up. :)

A grub screw and some epoxy will do the job.

I saw that hole and wondered if that was it - it's 100% different from what is in the write-up everyone links to.. I just closed everything back up.. i'm going back to crack it all open now!

That hole next to the pistons is the one I closed up after reading multiple write ups.

We have drastically different definitions of the word "best".

Here, throw these lockers in. You gotta get out and lock them up with a wrench every time and that may not always work but hey, lockers are the best.

like to hear more about your belt problem, have same with mine...not sure if its the compressor pull or tensioner.....
