To relieve fuel system pressure to allow fuel tank removal I plan the do following.

Please advise if agree this is appropriate/safe method. Don't want fuel spillage.

1 remove fuel cap
2 remove fuel pump relay
3 run engine until it stalls
4 attempt engine restart
5 turn off key
6 disconnect battery

I pulled my tank a few weeks ago and just relieved the pressure at the Schrader valve on the fuel injector rail. Had no issues.

I did both of these procedures and had no issues.

The newer model tj doesn't have that Schrader valve unfortunately. I had to relieve the pressure on mine by pulling the relay and running until it stalls as well.
