How to repair multifunction switch for fog lights (fog lights that won't turn off)

So I'm tempted to say screw it & rewire the tailights so they're always on when the key is on.
Unless anyone has any troubleshooting suggestions.

Just curious - are any of your lights LEDs by any chance? Not sure that it matters but I've just been trying to get my arms around all the complexities that seem to come into play when LED lights are introduced - some of the weird behavior I read about kinda reminded me of some of the things you are seeing, but not exactly.

Lol, yep, headlights, front turn signals, fog lights, dome light, reverse lights...... thinking about the center brake light soon.
Plus it just dawned on me that I installed a trailer light harness a while back. I bypassed it today and was checking for power in the factory harness.....nada. It's by the right rear tail light. I need to trace the power forward from there this weekend.

Airjunky, any progress? I'm on the other side of the state going through some of the same issues. Right rear brake/blinker not working. Running lights work, ground at the light is good but no power in, fuses all good and i did the whole swap the bulbs out, taking care to ensure the 1157 is installed correct. Not sure how long its been out, my son was behind me last weekend and told me it was out. All the other lights front and back are working properly.

I replaced the MFS about 10 months ago to fix a blinker that wouldn't cancel. Since I put it in, every once in a while I can hear a blinking, like its getting stuck. But the light isn't actually blinking. Once I wiggle the lever it goes away. I bought it at the local O'reilly's so I'm wondering if you had any luck with the Crown?

I absolutely hate electrical problems. Can't read a schematic worth a damn.
Thanks.

Not much progress here.....other than I downloaded the service manual PDF file and found several things to check. Mainly the pin outs for the taillight plugs and the plug on the back of the MF switch. Plus the routing of the wiring bundle.
Gives me a few things to check the next time I get a chance.

I have the same problem. Do I need to be concerned with accidental air bag deployment while fooling with MFD ?

I would think no, if you’re just removing and replacing. You just remove the cowl around the steering wheel and it’s right there. 3 or 4 small screws holding it on, besides the two harness connections. Not a lot of knowledge on TJ’s, but that’s how my 97 worked.

I've had the column on mine open many times and haven't triggered the air bag yet.

I had every intent on doing this fix but then I found the MFS for $144 and it was a MOPAR item so I went that route instead. Still an easy fix, and now my fog lights only come on when I turn them on......
Did you find the combination switch ? I have looked everywhere and find only the single switch to control the lights. If so please provide resource. Thanks

Are the MFS and wiper switch two separate components ?
They're two different switches that screw together as they're installed.
I just went down this road and tried switches from Oreillys an AutoZone. I actually had two different results. In the end a switch from Crown switch from Quadratec, which fixed the problem.

Here's an alternative write-up (though almost identical) to the one @bobthetj03 posted:

My 2003 Jeep Wrangler started magically turning on the fog lights while I had it parked. This issue kept getting worse until I could not get the lights to stay off without touching the switch. At first I was able to put my left turn signal on and this was just a temporary fix. I went to the dealer and they told me the switch would cost me $260 this is why I wanted to fix the existing switch. I want to keep my jeep nice and running another switch somewhere else would just bug me.

This write up includes removing the switch from the steering column.

Tools Needed
First you need to remove the steering the column plastic cover there are two screws in the holes closest to the steering wheel. Phillips

Now you can remove the two T20 screws on top of the multifunction switch. There are two harness plugs going into this switch which both have a red tab that need to be pulled out (but not completely) in order to be unplugged.

Now the entire switch assembly can be removed.

Next you need to remove the relay, two T10 screws, and the wire plug which has two black wires on it.

Now you need to carefully used a small flat head work your way around the piece being careful not to break any plastic.

Once this is done your switch is exposed and you should be able to see your problem.

A closer look will show you this.

Under the cover you can see what all is happening and why your fog lights will not say off. The white plastic piece has worn down and can no longer lift the metal piece far enough to stop the circuit.

If this seems to be your problem then your fix will be easy. Next you need to remove one more T10 screw. This will now lift out easily but before you do this remove all the pieces on top that are not secured down.

Now you will see the the lifter completely exposed. Pull it up and lightly press it down so you can remove it. I had to slide mine to the left.

Now you are ready to put some JB Weld on the part to build it up to its original length. (I used JB quick Weld but either will work) Before this step you might want to clean the part to ensure the glue will stick. I used side cuts to clean the part up from where it had actually smashed/melted down.

After the glue has dried you can now put it all back together and test it out.
So I’m having this same issue where my fog lights randomly turn on but can I just buy a new signal switch like this one put it on—https://www.quadratec.com/products/...MIvJzB3czm6QIVg5OzCh0uvgUuEAQYBSABEgIxG_D_BwE

What is Evan Fischer auto parts about? I never heard of them and seems like they have solid prices. Are they a newer competition to Crown?

Not entirely sure, but I will tell you that all of this stuff (just like the LED headlights and Crown stuff) is made in the same factories in China. They just re-brand them under other names. It's the Chinese way of business :ROFLMAO:

I got run off the DIYMA forums for saying something like that about these AudioFrog speakers I purchased. That forum is full of Democrantifas.
