Me and the GF needed some type of truck years ago, she talked me into a Jeep. It doesn’t have AC and rides like a Jeep so it quickly turned into my DD and not hers, go figure. The simplicity of the TJ and how easy it is to work on grew on me and now I’m the one who wouldn’t give the damn thing up.

I didn’t know anything about jeeps when we got it. She wanted a patriot blue one and once we found one, we jumped on it. By pure luck the first blue one we liked was a 05 LJ, 87k miles, standard transmission, , 31” wranglers on stock rims, hard top and bikini top. It’s a jeep so naturally I’ve had my fair share of problems and it’s kept me wrenching.

It’s been 20 below and I recently heard one hell of a squeak at cold start, like your average belt squeak but way louder. Pretty sure it’s the water pump bearing that’s only 3 years old. Replacing it now.

Figured a new serpentine belt since it was off and the old one could be a backup. The belt is too small. I bought right one per make and model but wait… WTF is this pulley for? At second glance, why is there radiators behind the grill?

Previous owner said it didn’t have AC and I took his word for it. It doesn’t blow cold air when set to the AC setting so he was partially right.

Is the lower pulley on the bottom drivers side for the clutch on a AC compressor?

Has this LJ had AC all these years and it’s just broken or do they use a AC pulley on models that don’t have AC?

If it has AC, where do I start trouble shooting why the AC doesn’t work? I’d love to have AC in the summer.
