I got bit by the bug and had to have one too. It's a very early 1946 CJ2a with the flat head L engine. It's kind of unique for those who are in the know on these things. The early CJ2s were assembled from a lot of left-over military parts originally set for the MB Jeeps. This one has the original indents on the driver's side for the tools. Those indents were dropped in later production. Shovel and axe would have lived there on an MB. It also has a hole in the front bumper and a slot in the crank for a hand starter. It has the same full float rear end as the MB and was an original 3 on the tree shifted transmission. Both of those options were dropped in early to mid '46. Small things, but they make it somewhat unique. This one also has an original PTO accessory drive. I will probably never use it, but it's cool in a utility type way. I'm planning on keeping it mostly original and doing more of a preservation vs a restoration. I want to make it mechanically sound and fix anything that is unsafe. I am not going to mess with the body and frame much except to fix any bad rust or cracks to prevent spreading. First order of business is to get it running and fix a bad bearing in the transmission.

I have the bug bad, but I've gotta get the LJ squared away first. I have several friends with different early CJs and they are a blast. A CJ2A, CJ3A and CJ3B are in the mix as well as a early 60s CJ5 with the F head 4 and rare 4 speed.

You should just get one if you find a good example. They are getting harder to find in decent and complete condition. I am planning on working on it slowly over time. In between the LJ and TJ builds. I actually wanted to find a good 3b, but they are hard to find and usually in much worse condition. They weren't as loved because of the tall hood.

I could probably buy the 3B reasonably but he let's me wheel it for free and it doesn't have a title.

Wow, that 3B looks good! A lot cleaner than anything around here. Can you not get a title for it?

I probably could get one. VA is weird about titles and the Vermont (?) loophole got closed recently. I had a 1950 CJ3A that needed put together and a driveline with a title but sold it because I just don't have the time or expendable income to deal with it right now.

I'll have one eventually, hopefully a CJ6 to stick with the Long Jeep theme. ;)

It's great to hear that you're not going to modify it with a re-power, rediff's, etc. Remember that the oil bath air cleaner and the horn have been friends with that L-head 4 a lot longer than you've been around. Crime to separate them . . . they'de be sad. 😊

Don't start my sainthood mural just yet...

Don't tow companies and wrecking yards do liens regularly to recoup costs?

Hopefully it is like here and one of those companies could get ownership for you?

I think here in Texas you can go through a process with a bonded title and a waiting period to get a title. I have heard it's a pain, but can be done.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of perfectly good rigs back east just got crushed so China could make garbage out of them 😕
