Essentially since I got this job, I've been saving up for a new camera. My parents bought me a Canon 1200D with the 18-55 kit lens and the 75-300 after I got out of the Army. It's been a good camera, but it's getting old and it's APS-C and not full frame. Then there's the fact that the cameras on my phone are pretty legit and it's a lot easier to carry it around than the swappable lens camera, so it hasn't gotten much use unless I specifically went out to use it.

Yesterday, I finally made the purchase I've been waiting to make.

I bought a used Sony A7R IVa. I also ordered a lens through my local camera shop, which won't be here in a week, the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 Art lens. Me being me, I couldn't wait that long and not use the camera, so I went on Best Buy's website and bought (I'll be returning it, so it's technically a rental... lol) the Sony 24-105mm f/4 as they could get it to me by Saturday. Initially I had good news and it looked like the Sony lens would be here yesterday, but it got hung up in Colorado Springs/Henderson Colorado and won't be here until today at the earliest now, maybe not until Monday.

So, impatient me, went to my local Best Buy and just bought the cheap 50mm f/1.8 so I'd have something to use and play with until the others got here. lol

So far I've taken quite a few pics of Noam (obviously) and I'm really impressed with the images.

Here's a couple of them - they're taken in RAW and converted to JPEG and uploaded.

The first picture I've ever taken with the camera:

And a couple more of Noam.

All of these images are 4096x2730, which is about half the full resolution since this is a 60.1MP sensor. lol

Full size JPEGs upload at over 60MB. lolol

So, this camera has the ability to take 16 different photos and shift the picture by one pixel for each of the 16 photos and then you can combine them for one super-detailed photo.

Here's the result, a 60MB JPEG from a 1.9GB RAW file. lol Definitely over-exposed (I'm not a photoshop guru...) and this is a 4K image, the original JPEG is 19008 × 12672. LMFAO Wow.

Here's a link to the Original size photo I mentioned above if you want to pixel peep. LMAO

So, you’re trying to win ROTM?

Well, we'll have to see about that. :D

I need to get out with the Jeep and get it somewhere worth voting for. Still need to get that heater core replaced, not fun to ride around in that thing smelling coolant and no heat. lol I think I might schedule it for next week. -20 wind chill is flipping cold with no heat.

More Noam.
:)

These are straight JPEGs from the camera, no editing.

Niiiice! Sony makes great cameras - I have 3 myself. You'll need that fast 50 anyway, so good purchase! Pixel counts are insane now - two of my Sony's are older 10.1 MP Alphas, but I shoot most pictures with the camera set at 5. The other, a Sony ZV-1 I bought to shoot video, but it'll take 20MP stills as well.

I'm jealous about the full frame, I haven't gotten full use of my wide angle lenses since I left the film world!

One thing to be on the watch for: My older Sony Alphas, just like the Minolta film camera they replaced, tend to underexpose flash pictures. That's ancient history and may not apply - hopefully not - but be on the lookout...

This is the original size JPEG straight from the camera. (I'm doing the fancy RAW on one, JPEG on the other)

I cropped the RAW and that was it on the one above.

You can count the specs of dirt with that insane MP count/resolution!

Seriously! And I didn't even use the pixel shift function either. lol The RAWs this thing can create are awesome.

These were all taken with the 24-105 f/4 Sony. Went out to shoot the sunrise today and see what I could get.

Here's the album of the straight-from-camera JPEGs. https://www.flickr.com/photos/cybrslydr/albums/72177720303845859

I think this was my favorite (again, a crop of the original RAW).

As for counting specks of dirt...
