I have a chance to buy a used PCM for $150 for my TJ, should I do it for backup?

My '03 X (manual, 4.0L) ran into an engine issue recently and in the process of troubleshooting, my mechanic has sourced a PCM from a junkyard that works on mine. It turned out to be a wiring issue (shorting out) and not a PCM issue. However, I can buy this PCM for $150 from the mechanic (Auburn Offroad and Car repair here in WA state).

Should I pick it up and keep it? Seems like PCMs going bad are rare, but when they do, they seem to be a pain to get corrected.

Thoughts??

If you can verify it works, then I would absolutely buy that 100%.

Having a spare PCM is a very good idea.

@Wranglerfix has been very good to this community by providing a source for replacement PCMs and fixing ones that have issues. Even he would encourage you to pickup a spare one for that price (if it's good).

For an 03 that's a fair price. Luckily you have a large range of PCMs to use including from Cherokees.

I'd probably pay $150 for something that could definitively tell me if my PCM was bad or it was something else on the Jeep...
