These actually work?

I like the second one with a physical knob for volume. What's involved in wiring it? Any chance you a picture of it installed? Does it include the camera, remotes etc?

My daughter would love it if I put one in her Liberty and candidly, my cheap JVC head unit has nothing going for it other than a removable face plate.

I know nothing about stereos and given how little I listen to music, my expectations for hi-fi sound performance are really low. I wouldn't mind some Apple integration and a [even slightly] bigger screen for navigation.

I tried a cheap Android head unit everybody was raving about once... it was a huge piece of shit. Took forever to boot, audio quality was really bad with no real feature set to adjust the eq or anything. Screen was ridiculously unresponsive. Doesn't mean they're all that way, but that was my experience dipping my toes into the Chinese Android stereo market. You get what you pay for, which might be fine if your expectations are low and you're not much of an audio guy.

Anyway not trying to be a nay-sayer, I hope this one turns out to be good.

Can you post a picture of it installed?

Also what amp are you using?

Do these require an amp?

As I said above, my expectations are REALLY low. No amp on my cheap shit JVC unit, though the PO installed Kicker speakers. Can't lie.. I've probably listened to music less than two dozen time in the years I have the TJ. Nav I use nearly every day.

The one I put the offer in for does.

I put a much more expensive, 10+ inch Android unit in our 2015 JKU, but we opted to do the double-din non-touch screen version in the TJ.
If the thing works as far as BT connectivity and a visible screen for Carplay, it looks like a win to me.
It CAN'T be worse than the OEM unit!

They countered at $140. I think I’m going to pass.

I still go to Downtown LA once a week so I’m hesitant to get the $600 Sony that I want.

That's about what I paid for my single din 10 inch Boss be10acp touchscreen professionally installed with backup camera, Bluetooth, Mic, Android Auto and Carplay. I put a 1/2 din Clarion graphic EQ into the empty space. I hooked mine up with a wireless AA toogle. It comes with two USB connectors out the back. One for AA and one for USB. I used the USB to power my wireless cup holder charger. The screen removes leaving just an empty hole. Nothing even worth stealing once you remove the screen. It's a really nice unit. The screen can even slide up and down so that it doesn't block the vents.

I put a similar single din car play unit into my daughter's jeep.... $46 on amazon.

I too am curious about this one. I've been eying it on Amazon, however that price point has me a tad worried. I'm not expecting competition level quality out of it, but how is the interface and response?

I haven't had it installed for very long (like 2 weeks) but yes, works fine. Me & several buddies have those cheap Joyring units installed, and one of my friends put them in his kids' cars. There was a guy on marketplace who mustve bought a bunch of alibaba or something, because he had a picture of a stack of them in his house, selling for $20. No issues. Wiring them up is exactly like any other car stereo. Match the head unit wires to the harness and send it. Most of these come with a remote & camera/wiring. The Joyrings have been going strong for 3+ years now across several vehicles. This is the first time using this brand, however. So far so good. The instructions on this one were actually usable too. Still Engrish, but not terrible Engrish.

Most of our installs don't use an amp, but my daughter's jeep had a sub in the back, no idea what brand. I just wired it in same as before. I'll get a pic next time I see it.

The boot time on these isn't super fast, but honestly it's faster than my wife's 2021 Expedition. I mean look, it's not a $1500 deck, it's a $50 deck. But they work really well without any real compromise. I can't really speak to the audio quality... (a) I'm not an audiophile, (b) my hearing is quite literally shot after too many years in a rock band, (c) the jeep supplies tons of background noise anyway... but it sounds fine to me. My friends who aren't deaf haven't complained either. YMMV. But if you require oxygen-free speaker cable, then you already know this isn't going to be for you. Screen lag (from touch to response) is worse than the Ford but much better than my 2014 Lexus.

If I had one complaint over say the Pioneer 4400 NEX that I have in my JKU, it's that you can't (or at least I can't figure out how to) play the radio while you're using a car play function like navigation or OnX. It took me a while to figure out how to do it on the Ford, so there probably is a way. But at $50 I can live with that limitation, and I can also afford for it to break (or get stolen) something like 12 times before I'm at a negative ROI compared to the Pioneer.

Do an amazon search for "android single din." Plenty of these will pop up for under $100.

Yep, I searched for a while to find ANY unit with a physical volume knob. My joyring has soft buttons, and it's very hard to control the volume. I didn't want that for my daughter, so it was either hard up/down buttons or a knob. And I really didn't want to hack the dash & buy the bezel for a double DIN.

Thanks. You don't have to tear up your console to install it either. The icons below the screen can change colors, it has a built in amp, all kinds of EQ settings, booster, and you can just display time and date, or even turn off the whole screen and make the screen black if it starts to irritate you. I had mine professionally installed and the manual recommends it. Plus, I had lots of stuff connected to it, like the Clarion, which is only about a $100, but it has pre-amp controls, so I can control my Alpine PDX-v9, power and sub levels, which is also connected to the Boss. I use the Clarion as a sort of power limiter for my 1500watt Alpine. It is mounted on a special TJ bracket behind my dash and under my steering column, so my Alpine also stays completely out of sight of thieves.

What I like about this one is it’s designed to fit the factory location for a 1997-2001. It’s a true 1.5 DIN

Yup. Plenty of those on Amazon as well. The keywords I listed above will pull up about 80% 1.5 decks with a couple double dins in the mix. This is the first three options with those keywords. Dozens more below it.
