I just put in an offer for $100. I'll keep you all posted.

What I like about this one is it’s designed to fit the factory location for a 1997-2001. It’s a true 1.5 DIN

They make really good dash kits for 1.5 din to single din. They aren't that expensive either, around $60.00 dollars. I chose to use the extra 1/2 din to really detail my EQ levels with a Clarion EQ. This way, I don't over saturate any frequenices that could blow my speakers, with unnecessary distortion. I have known Clarion from back in the day as a really Good EQ module. Either I spend $60 dollars for the single dash kit, and throw away the extra 1/2 din space, or I spend $100 dollars for the Clarion to use the 1/2 din space, and get a much better EQ'd system. As far as audio is concerned, the $40 dollars difference was nothing to get a better system for me. Especially since my Alpine PDX-V9 was about $1000 dollars. I would say that any single din stereo in a TJ, is better served with the Clarion EQ in the extra 1/2 din space. This way you protect your speakers, because the Clarion can limit the speaker output(Gain Control), subwoofer output(if you have one), and EQ the sound even further to limit speaker blowing distortion at specific EQ frequencies, since the Clarion is a seven band EQ. Most decent single din stereos are way better than 1.5 din stereos. So, whatever cost you choose for the Head Unit, I would say to get a single din stereo and use the Clarion EQ in the extra 1/2 din space.

Note: They are showing the Alpine PDX-V9 for $850 brand new on Amazon. This is reputably the best amp on the market and if can fit under the dash and it is probably the coolest running AMP on the market. THD is super low at max output, less than 1%. They even make a special TJ kit to mount it under the dash. It is an investment, but I would rather spend my money this way, than spend it on a lift. But, I like a lot of different types of music and sometimes I like my music really loud, especially on the highway, with my top off. I've never seen a vehicle that can compete with the Alpine PDX-V9. You just need the proper speakers for it. Forget Kickers or Polks, with the Alpine. They can't handle it. With the Alpine, if you ever want to add a good subwoofer, you are ready.
