Makes you wonder eh? I think the Local departments were training, the guys I saw were in full multicam gear.

Departments usually get them free. Part of an agreement with the federal government.

Issue is, for those that were in the Army or Marine motor pool, the maintenance is stupid expensive and most small departments have/had no idea until the bills roll in.

we have a bearcat, much cheaper to maintain and makes more since for the SWAT guys to use.

Yeah, not to get this moved to the political forum but it seems a touch overboard for community policing unless it's a singular SWAT type thing

That aside, those things are amazing. I'm not in a part of the military that has anything to do with them, but a pal took me for a spin in one at Eglin AFB and I was impressed - closing the passenger door was akin to shutting a vault.

No I agree with everything you said. They are over the top for even SWAT. They are too expensive for departments to have, especially when they could have bearcats for a 1/10th of the cost and serve SWAT all the protection needed. Ours rolls out on calls less than a dozen times a year including training.

And yes, I think they are a great machine for our troops! The design is impressive and they move out fast for their size and weight!

Maybe it’s so they can show it off at the county fair

Same tow mirrors as my Silverado, who makes those?
Lenco does.

I don’t work on it but I think it’s a GM chassis.

Good lord that's the weight of a half-fueled F-35 with no munitions. Who tows them out when they park on the grass shoulder?
Right. Ridiculous for police use.

I’d imagine the largest wrecker they can find. My BIL heavy hauls for a large construction company and he is 110k-120k on a regular basis, lots of permits and you can’t just roll that kind of weight down any road.

We have one of those here for SWAT or SERT. I remember it showed up at a bar fight one night when I was a younger man. Police in riot gear breaking up a fight at a big cowboy bar was fun to watch. This bar was like 60k sq ft and had a bull arena inside it. They used to do dance music for an hour, and then rodeo. Back and forth all night. Fun place.
