I think that salvage Jeeps are the only way to buy anymore

I've said it before and I'll say it again, as someone who has bought and sold 37 vehicles in 47 years: When it comes time to SELL a vehicle, I don't care WHAT the CARFAX says or doesn't say - a "Salvage Title(d)" vehicle is the equivalent of climbing into bed with a leper with AIDS, Hep-C, Herpes Type 1 AND Type 2, at least from the (potential) buyers' standpoint..."Hmmm - I wonder what ELSE could possibly be wrong with it?" You guys have all BOUGHT pre-owned vehicles, right? Isn't your mindset going into the sale "I wonder how MANY things I can find wrong/questionable with this vehicle so that I can work the asking price down?" From where *I* sit, a Salvage Title is at the very TOP of that "work down list", since it will ALWAYS & ALL WAYS be a Salvage/Reconstructed Vehicle Title; there is no "Can Of Unfuck" that can EVER make that go away - not even a 6-Pack of Unfuck...

Agreed. Salvage title vehicles are a gamble. That, and their value will always be lower.

On a vehicle with tremendous resale value like a TJ, you will pay a few bucks more for a clean vs. salvage title but it will also be able to sell quickly and for higher dollar - which negates the benefit to saving money on a salvage vehicle at the time of purchase (if it ends up being a good buy).

I’ve never kept a vehicle long term so maybe I view valuation differently than some.

On the long crank issue. Have you tried cycling your key to the run position for a few seconds and then off a few times before trying to start it yet? Your "long crank" problem sounds suspiciously like a lack of fuel pressure at the fuel rail.

That's what I thought it was, because if I leave it in the stage before actually cranking (don't know the term lol) for a while, then try to start it turns on without much of a problem. I'm trying to research good fuel pumps because I'm not really comfortable with putting a cheap part into something that runs my engine.

The best thing to do is replace.it with the Bosch original pump. For most years of the TJ they don't make the complete pump and module any more so you have to just get the pump motor itself and replace it within the module.

That's the Bosch replacement pump I was talking about for the factory fuel pump assembly. It's relatively easy to replace the pump. Best suggestion is to wait until your fuel tank is as close to empty as you dare take it.

Edit: You might also consider replacing the pickup screen while you're in there. I wouldn't bother replacing the metal mesh screen that is inside the assembly. The replacements I have found are of lesser quality and it's easy enough to clean the original.
