I think that salvage Jeeps are the only way to buy anymore

Oh on a side note, I drove the wife's 15 JK, what a nice ride, it was a flood jeep out of Houston and sold under a salvage/flood/in accurate mileage title. I took us down to Salt Lake for a company Christmas party at a local comedy club. The Jeep seems to handle better than my 17 Jetta. I think I really got a win with it, 13,800 and the only things I have done was install a takeoff Rubicon shocks and springs and 3 idler pulleys.

I do need to put in some Redline MTL though because the 6 speed can be finikie but I did not have any problems on Saturday. I also got 22.3 MPG @ 75 mph, I could only with my TJ could get that kind of Mileage and have 100 HP more that the 4.0. I know I do not like the looks of the JK as much as the traditional TJ, but it sure performs better. Tim

Agreed. I love the classic TJ for its looks and cruising around town, even daily. The TJ rides great, but for longer trips our '16 Willys JK is much more comfortable and civil as you said. The Willys edition comes with the same Rubicon shocks and springs you installed and we have been pleasantly surprised and content with the stock ride quality. Running on 33" KO2's, 1.5" wheel spacers, stock height for now. I installed seat heaters and a new Android Auto auto stereo system w/ backup camera. We have the 5 speed automatic. Pretty much like a Cadillac now, LOL. The wife loves this one in the summer too. Nice vehicles no doubt, especially if you can get 'em cheeper like you did!

Looking at the passenger side step, it looks to be angled down in the pics. and looking at some of the other pics that show the rear of the jeep it looks like there is a LOT of rust. Maybe the frame is rotted out enough the step bent/tore the frame side?

When frame rot is severe, you'll see rust on the body- top of fenders, rocker panels, rear of tub. I don't see evidence of that in this pic, nor do I see any body quirks like buckled metal, irregular panel gaps, etc.

Was that the red one with 36k? Jeep was in great shape, the frame was junk. Unsafe to drive type frame rust. 2 of the front control arms were rusted off of the axel tube. I bid on it twice. The first time it went for 5,300 then got resisted sold for 6k.

yes, that was it. It's insane that the frame was that bad and the body looked minty fresh.

No kidding, it was a Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde Jeep. The tub looked like it was fiberglass and the frame looked as if the PO had it parked at the beach for 15 years.

If someone swaps the frame and welds on new brackets they'll have a hell of a nice rig.

It’s totaled as Alfaro as insurance is concerned...we see the same thing as you so it’s a gamble

I am a technician at a large dealership. I wouldn’t buy a salvage title or auction vehicle. Period. Not to say there aren’t good ones out there. But they are the exception.
