I want to add a subwoofer to my TJ, but which one?

From looking at the pics of the unit on Crutchfield, it is designed to lay flat, so just wondering what method you guys used to mount them on end?
I planned to make a bracket but never did, it’s just crammed into the console for me

Rockford Fosgate PS-8 is what I did. It's a powered sub. I mounted it under the rear seat so that it is completely hidden and I still have my console. I can unplug it in <10 seconds to remove the seat.

This is the most elegant solution if you don't have the subwoofer stock in your console. OP should look for JMT's tutorial or post on this. (Maybe he'll post pics.) I saw what he did. And it's by far the best solution I've seen. That is if you still have your backseat in place and no place in the console for it to snap into (meaning your Jeep didn't come with a subwoofer in the console stock). He mounted it to the underside of his rear seat. So it's completely hidden. And takes up no room you were even using.

I got a cheap kicker 12" slim behind the rear seat with a 250watt rockford prime amp. does the job nicely enough.

would really like to upgrade to a L7 slim sometime in the future for either my TJ or my regular cab Ram. probably for my ram as its my daily.

What did you do for wiring the sub/amp? I have a TJ that doesn't have a factory sub. I purchased a used console that has one and am trying to hook it up. There is no plug underneath the console I can plug into...
Is there a harness I can buy that will plug right into the sub-box??

I did this. Do you have the female plug coming out of the console. If so, you can buy a used pigtail with the male plug from Davey's Jeep. Then you need to create a "Y" harness. First, put spade terminals on the console pigtail that you buy. Then connect extra wire to each of those and run it up to the radio opening. Add a piggy back spade connector to that end of the wires you run up from the console. From the radio, using spade connectors, connect each wire of that harness to the corresponding piggy back terminal. Then, take another pigtail that has a female plug and plug it into the factory radio harness. Last, connect each of the wires from that pigtail to the other point on the piggy back terminal. So, what you end up doing is merging the wires from the factory radio harness and the harness from the radio into the harness that runs to the subwoofer/amp. It's best to match the wires using the pin out diagrams in the FSM since the wires are not always matching colors.

Thanks @moab.
Here are a few pics after 2 years. PS-8 running strong. Completely out of the way. My console is full of Armor All wipes, scruncii’s, toilet paper and beer koozies. Why ruin that space when you can save it and put your sub in an unused space?

I’m thinking of adding a powered sub to my setup. When I got my TJ about a month ago it already had the Amp Installed under the rear set. Would anybody do a slim amp mounted under the east seat as well?

I don’t know where the East seat is, but yes. 🤣

I'm building a system now and am thinking of that sub in the console, also there is this amp for $90. Looks like same size and got great reviews. Can you post more pics. Trying to see how it fits and how much more room is available.

My theory is that people try to put it in the center console out of nostalgia. It is an interesting idea, but it destroys useable space in a TJ, which is valuable.

I recently moved it to behind my driver seat as I build a custom center console with lockable storage instead.
GOt a link for your lockable console? I want to make one out of aluminum.

Cool so you guys sold me on the under rear seat sub mount.

Two options you presented:
  1. Sound Ordinance, 125W, $170, 1000+ reviews. https://www.crutchfield.com/S-kLn58SFUO8U/p_777B8PTD/Sound-Ordnance-B-8PTD.html.
  2. RF 8", 150W, $254. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Y3WKUX8/?tag=wranglerorg-20
I'm leaning toward the SO and i like the gain knob you can remote mount also. I'm always all about ease of integration, i like the mounting feet on the SO which will allow me to make a nice mount under the rear seat.

I have one posted in the for sale section.
