In Dash GPS

I go places that lose GPS satellite signal, some areas out west are located where the US Government is testing and you cant get a signal...

I've never experienced that anywhere in Colorado or Wyoming or anywhere in the Midwest.

Yeah, its a Utah/Nevada thing. They post testing info on aviation websites because a lot of airplanes use GPS for navigation and it really sucks if they fly off course....

Did you have to put in a different dash piece to fit the double din and if so what part did you use. I have found the one on amazon but not much info on it.

Does anyone have any pics of the double din units installed? What map system are you using? Can you import topographic maps? How about xm reception in the back country? Thanks, Tim

I had XM in my Jeep for a while but here in the PNW with the trees I had spotty reception. I run into the same issues driving across I-90 in my truck. I will go thru some areas where I loose reception for 30sec-1 min. So I am taking all XM stuff out. I'll just use a thumbdrive or SD card. Now down in Moab my XM worked great 95% of the time.

I have a Kenwood DNX 690 and I really like it. I did put on an external GPS antenna. The unit works great, and I like the fact that my GF can watch movies when on long rides!!

There are a ton of double din head units from China. Where most all of them are made. Several threads around here about them.

I bought from https://www.eincar.com/ and they have an amazing selection. You can find them on Amazon too. I bought one with close to all the aspects of a Pioneer or Kenwood for a fraction of the price. I paid $140. And got everything except multiple monitor display.

I would use your phone for GPS. The headunits do not update that often. And generally get outdated rather quickly.

Better yet. Consider a removable tablet. A Samsung 8" tablet can be had for less than $150, Mount for another $30. I prefer Arkon mounts. And you can load the tablet with current day mapping apps. With more functionality than any other type of unit. And any other thing you want to run. Watch movies. Listen to music. Etc. Etc.

I put the Aoto pro in mine and it had GPS and it's fairly nice. I have the Pioneer 2300 Nex on my truck and it is also very nice but twice the price and no built in GPS.

I agree with this, there are more useful things to put on your radio display.

Forgot to mention they almost all come with backup cams too. Yes. Alot of more valuable stuff to put on your headunit. This is why I also recommend a Tablet. For less than $200 you can have an ultimate device that does it all. Leave your head unit for just music and backup cam. $400 bucks you could have a two din head unit with backup cam. And a tablet for handling mapping software and maps that you can upload to it and even overlay. The options are endless with a tablet. And you don't have to leave it in the Jeep to get ripped off.

Buy one of these and put an Arkon tablet mount on it.

TO mate with this. They both use 17mm balls. Take off the suction cup and it will clamp to the ball on the above tray:

Or just use this Arkon mount on your windsheild. It's rides on the dash and into any position you want. And easier to remove. I use one like the one above and the suction cup is very very strong. It won't come off.

Dig around on Arkons site. They make just about any mount to mount just about anywhere. Tons of different attachment options.

I went with my Blaupunkt because of the following. It will play DVD’s anytime (for the kid), it has backup camera and it also has a front camera which I’ve got switched inputs allowing a winch (front view) plus spotter cameras for both front tires as shown in my picture above.

And for $120, if it disappears I’m not too concerned.
