Do you want to upgrade your dull stock headlights without spending hundreds of dollars on a pair of LEDs? Try the H4 conversion kit by Rampage. They're extremely easy to install (plug & play), made of glass & die cast aluminum, bright white light and cost less than $80 for a pair with bulbs.

LEDs are better, but this H4 conversion kit is worthy of your consideration if you would rather focus your Jeep funds elsewhere. This is the best upgrade I've made to my LJ for under $100. Whichever route you choose, I highly recommend upgrading your stock headlights because the difference is between night and day.

I did the Rampage H-4 conversion last year and for the $69 I paid it is probably one of the best low cost headlight upgrades out there. Definately a dramatic improvement over the stock sealed beam.

I picked an inexpensive H-4 conversion off the web and was disappointed. The light output was so scattered that no amount of adjustment would result in a proper light spread. Hard to believe that someone couldn't engineer a simple reflector that was focused properly. It probably wouldn't cost any more than this thing.
I've since purchased LEDs. Not yet installed. Also a bargain example though it got very good reviews from previous users.
I replaced my Harley headlight years ago with a Trucklight Phase 6 unit and it's great. Hoping for the same with this.
I also found Chris' write-up very useful. Thanks.

Sorry to re-open this thread, but I have a completely ignorant question to ask again re headlights:

Because I am not that auto-mechanically inclined, when I read about swapping out the headlights for newer ones, is this that entire assembly or just the bulb inside of it?

If you spend about 70.00 more, you can add a relay harness. This will let the lights pull power directly off the battery, making them brighter. It will also save your light switch if the bulbs pull more power, and give you the option of even higher wattage bulbs. I run the Hella Vision Plus, but I installed a relay harness first, and it made the stock lights noticeably brighter.

More info please.

But for only $120 you can get far better light output from the LEDs:

A lot of people on here are running those headlights and love them. Can't really complain about the price either.

I know @Sahara 00 just installed a set.

Lowbeam with driving lights.

The driving lights alone are brighter than the stock sealed beam halogen headlights
