I’m hoping someone has experienced this problem and can provide some guidance. I have a 2006 Jeep TJ X that I bought about a month ago, I’ve had a few other wranglers but this problem is completely new to me. When I bought the Jeep the odometer was working fine but the other day it started displaying all 8’s. I did the instrument gauge test and 2 faults showed up:
Bus bO and open panel
I haven’t been able to find much about these faults anywhere online except that Bus bO has something to do with not communicating with the PCM. I pulled out the cluster and cleaned all the connections checked all the wiring that I could get to under dash and found no issues.
Furthermore, when I attempted to scan a check engine code I had to install a fuse so the OBDII would work. With this fuse installed on port 26 labeled accessories on the under the hood fuse panel, the 4WD light on comes on and stays on. This only happens with this fuse, and not without. However I have checked and I am in fact not in 4WD.
I’m stumped at this point and would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks in advance

All 8s in the odometer means an internal cluster fault. Only solution is to replace the cluster. It would have to be from an 05 or 06 TJ I think.

If the Cluster is replaced how does the odometer get set correctly? Will the mileage be stored in the PCM and just automatically link with the cluster? Thanks for the help!

I believe the mileage is stored in both the cluster and the PCM. The mileage displayed is in the cluster is that which is stored on the cluster, so any replacement would show the mileage of the vehicle it came from.

I don't know if you'd need to get some sort of notification that the cluster mileage differs from original and by how much, in case of future sale. I don't even know if a new cluster could be reprogrammed with your mileage.

Others may be able to offer more information on the subject.
