Wondering what folks have purchased for storage over the rear wheel wells?
Have been browsing Amazon/Ebay and looking for hard compartments.
My '04 Sport has no back seat and always has the hardtop in use.
Ideas and practical info/critiques are most welcome. Pics would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I had some steel ammo cans bolted to the top of the wheel wells on prior rigs. Worked well enough but did interfere with soft top bows when down, but, you are running a hard top so not a concern

What about these?

Not a hard compartment, but Bestop saddle bags work fairly well and stay out of the way.

Tuffy offers metal over-the-wheelwell boxes for storage and speaker mounting.

Bestop saddlebags are what we have. They get a big thumbs up from me. Some thoughts, though, for those shopping around:
  • Pricey: but very high quality fabric - very weatherproof. I could see these lasting many years.
  • Soft-sided= good for passenger safety
  • Fabric = lighter weight than hard materials.
  • Secure straps similar to softtop straps, also make these easy to de-install and store.
  • Size: these are large containers and hold a lot of stuff.
  • Once stuffed full of hoodies, towels, blankets, first aid kit bags, maps, etc, these make great armrests for passengers.

I also have a Bestop Saddle Bag. It attaches to the B and C Pillar.

I think it is “okay” for carrying things. I prefer recovery gear and other “soft” items rather than “heavy” tools.

I’m looking for inspiration to make my own boxes for this area on both sides.

I dug up the link for these things… as someone who never has a top on I’m disinterested, but since OP has a hard top I can see some value there. I like the MOLLE on the face.

I use a couple of small round duffles, kept in place with straps and square D rings that utilize the hard top hold down bolts. They are used primarily for clothing and personal items, one for me and the other for my passenger, i.e., lightweight stuff. Heavier gear goes on the floor behind the rear seat.
