thanks , corrected my mistake.Your 97 TJ would've come stock with a 231 transfer case. So unless a PO swapped it for a Rubicon 241 case... The Rubicon 241 case has lower gearing than the 231 and yes, it's considered a stronger design. There are a few other differences between the two also.
so it would be upgrade to swap it out to a rubi 241 t case. I doubt i will , but just asking. thanks.thanks , corrected my mistake.
The 241 is an upgrade only if you want the lower crawl ratio. Not everyone wants or needs that.so it would be upgrade to swap it out to a rubi 241 t case. I doubt i will , but just asking. thanks.
the crawl ration is lower but the high gear is still 1 to 1 ? like normal or the 231?The 241 is an upgrade only if you want the lower crawl ratio. Not everyone wants or needs that.
Correct. 2H and 4H are the same as the 231.the crawl ration is lower but the high gear is still 1 to 1 ? like normal or the 231?
my gears are 4.88 and i have a manual 5 speedWith a manual transmission or 3 speed automatic, the lower 4:1 would probably be nice. I liked my 241 with 4:1 with 4.10 gears. I changed to 5.38 gears and and 4:1 low range seems a little too much. The 231 is much easier to tuck the the larger 241.
That's another good point. The 241 case is larger than the 231. If you have a tummy tuck (or plan to) you'll have to deal with the different clearance. With a manual transmission or 3 speed automatic, the lower 4:1 would probably be nice. yes sir I do have a tummy tuck, but I do have room about the 231 t case, I didnt push it all the way to the top. That's another good point. The 241 case is larger than the 231. If you have a tummy tuck (or plan to) you'll have to deal with the different clearance.
What would you consider a fair offer for the 241 to be ?I switched from a 231 to 241 with UCF zero clearance, and with my BL, I had to do a bit of bashing to get case to clear. Would recommend switching to cable shifter if you do it
Arizona vs MississippiI couldn’t imagine going without my 241. I am also playing in the rocks, so it makes a big difference.
Thanks !I paid 1200 for mine. 15 is a bit high. What are prices on Car-Part? Use that as a guide also.
I would offer 1250, see if he bits, I would not go over 13.Thanks !
Yep, I haven’t wheeled in Mississippi, but I would have to imagine the 231 might actually be more enjoyable there.Arizona vs Mississippi
