Is it required to run 30 spline axle shafts in my Dana 30 with a selectable locker?

Just coming back to this thread to ask one more question!

A reliable way to run a locker in a Dana 30 (even with 35" tires) is to use (as @Jerry Bransford has suggested in various threads):
  1. 4340 chromoly 27-spline axle shafts
  2. Spicer 5-760x u-joints
I am wondering, which is the purpose of 30-splines axle shafts for Dana 30? Can anyone elaborate on this?

More splines means larger shaft. Larger shaft mean stronger axle.
