Is this TJ a good buy?

I turned down a 02' with 135,000 miles on it for $4500. That was last year. It had some bad paint on the hood and no AC. Good deals are few and far between around here.
Why not just install the A/C parts and have the hood painted?

Way too much. I got a 2006 with less than 100k miles and pristine inside for less.
Im curious if the inside of the frame was pristine too. That type of condition is so hard to find here in NJ. Unless it lived in a southern state or was garaged.

Ive looked at many, many, many Jeeps on lots, time and time again (when a friend was trying to find one 2 years ago) and I only found 2 with somewhat clean frames. Who knows if they were even from the NE.

Of course you are poor, you have a jeep. :)
The XJ that I sold to get my Rubi back is what made me "poorer". I needed money and more room, so I sold the Rubicon and bought a clean 99' XJ for $3,000. Did tons of neglected maintenance, lift, wheels, tires, etc. Sold it for $7,500 within a week of listing it. I wish I could have kept them both.
p.s. The guy I sold it to asked me if I wanted it back.................for $9,000. I "disrespectfully" declined his offer.

This one was originally sold in North Carolina.

Wow. Lots of posts, thanks! Yeah, I’ve decided to pass on ol chili pepper… maybe things are crazy around here. I live in Asheville, NC and I’m searching a 100 mile radius. Anything from 100-150k in decent shape are listed around 12,500-15,500!!!!

Thank you for the wonderful tips!

My top prospects currently are w/ little to no rust manuals:
Red 04 Rubicon w/ 117k asking 15,500
Black sport w/ 100k asking 14,000 (only one I’ve got to see so far, owned for 12 yrs garage kept 0 rust)
Black 05 Rubicon w/ 180k asking $12,000

The 04' Rubicon is the better deal of those three. Talk them down $1,000. :)

I had a guy pull the same crap on me after I sold him a pristine 2001 XJ limited I had put a bunch of money into. A week after he bought it, his son put it into a tree. He “fixed” it then asked me if I’d want to buy it back for what I sold it to him for, I also declined…

Either Rubi would be my choice.
