Found a super clean 02’ wrangler at a used car dealership. It’s completely stock, beautiful factory paint, flawless interior no scratches or cracks or rips. Has the 4.0 with an automatic tranny. I plan to trade me 00’ cherokee in for it. Its listed for 16k. Is it worth that much? There is no rust.

Keep looking. I paid $9500 for my one owner Rubicon when it was stock. The PO had every service record from the day he drove it off the lot. Window sticker included.:)
p.s. I sold my 99' XJ outright for $7500 to buy it back after selling it.

Starting at $16K might be "OK" but we need more details to find out how low to go.

Hard top? Soft top? Both? Full service records? How few miles?

I'd call the 3:07 a pretty big drop in price unless the goal is primarily freeway driving and never really off road.

After typing that last sentence I kinda wonder how the 3:07 was ever offered to begin with.

Before stupidity jacked all the used car prices, that is a 10,000 dollar rig on a good day.

Hard top. 120k miles, no detailed service records but carfax says everything checks out... and yes it will be primarily used for highway driving

I test drove it and the only things i saw that were wrong was the cruise control didnt work, and the transfer case would grind really bad when putting it in 4-LO. And would pop out occasionally driving in 4-LO. It is a used car dealership so i dont know how iffy i should be about it. From what you say its not worth 16k so i will definitely not take it home for that if at all. Seeing what they say about the t-case

Stupidity has definitely taken over pricing. While it may seem stupid to pay that much, that may be what the going rate is in your area. If that’s way off of the going rate, that’s one thing. However if it’s in line with the normal selling price in your area then you’re probably not gonna have room of room to negotiate.

Last year I bought a ‘98 sport for $11k and I thought that was too much, but in this area it was reasonable and if I wanted it, I had to pay for it.

It sucks, but thats the current state of things. What’s it worth to you and what’s it worth to your bank if financing. That’s all that matters in this market, what things cost a year or more ago is irrelevant.
