Three Vietnam guys are retiring, so the minimums to get into EMS is around 2000 hours. So it is feasible now.
There's just no money in helicopters, they max out at around $150k career wise.

I think he kind of likes the risk; he backcountry skis in avalanche terrain, used to fly ultralights or something similar. Also, airlines take you away from home 3-5 nights a week right?
