@Plumber1 would be really proud-

If you don’t have access to the race

from the other side or don’t want to risk damage to the internals banging around, this works -

The races on my 44 pretty much fell out on their own when I did the job last summer. This looks like real fun.

Maybe next time just pour some liquid nitrogen on the race to make it shrink. Work smarter not harder.

Heat and cold both do the same thing. Run a weld bead around the tapered bit of the race and when you're done, the race will fall right out. (not really the heat, the weld shrinking does the work) If I have to tell you to protect the seal bore from weld spatter, you shouldn't be doing this anyway.

I mean sure, if you don't have a dewar of liquid nitrogen on hand.

I like your thinking outside of the box. A tool is tool no matter how you use it. Now I'm not calling you a tool:unsure::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I can't tell you how many times a pipe wrench has been used a hammer, or a 14" wrench made into a 24"

I wish I could buy a pipe wrench for $23.00 but mine run about $69.00

I guess no harbor freights in California?

Oh yea HF is great for tools used around the house not so good for professional use everyday. IMHO

When it comes to work, I only use tools I enjoy. I won’t entertain anything that will make it even slightly harder.

Price is no object for the most part.

At the same time I have HF stuff for loaners and demo.

Same side the wheel came off on?

Same side the axle broke on?

I bet the wheel coming off had something to do with that race being so tight.... .
