Leaking ammo can

I have a "tall 50" ammo can bolted to the tongue of my utility trailer. Damn thing is leaking, and I don't know why. I swapped lids with a brand new one with a very pliable gasket - no change, it shows good indentation all around. No rust anywhere. I went out this AM to check it after yesterday's rain, it actually hissed from pressure when I opened it - yet there was water in it.

Any ideas?

Hmmm... I'll pursue that thought although I want to say that there's been no water in the thing when it hasn't rained. But I'm not sure - so I'll check into that. I also could be confused between original lid and the new one I put on.

I use them all the time. Humidity in GA is almost as bad as FL. All my tents, sleeping bags, jeep bags, etc get a few dropped in.

Is it leaking from the piano hinge area? Close the can and pour a cup of water onto the top of it or splash it against the hinge and see if its coming in there (assuming its not just condensation). If thats where its leaking maybe you could put a strip of Black Gorilla tape on the inside of the can where the hinge is to keep water out.

Henna is a shrub that grows in the middle east, and is used to dye hair and also the beautiful designs seen mostly on Indian brides' hands and feet. As a hair dye, it lasts forever until it grows out. As a skin dye, it will last a week or 10 days if proper care is taken of it. Its been MANY years since I had "mehendi" done, let me dig up a picture...

Sigh... Well its definitely NOT condensation...

No water inside with the shower cap on. I think I'm going to put an action-cam inside and see if it picks up any light.

Used my last shower cap, so I bought some more...

This should be enough for 20-25 years - which is about my life expectancy. Shouldn't ever have to buy any more!

There "shouldn't be" - brand new top, and it isn't wet, blah, blah. Still, I'll eyeball that area, esp. at the hinges. I'm fairly convinced its coming from the hinge area, as the water is on the bottom at that point. However, the box also slopes towards the rear as the trailer is tongue high when parked. *shrug*

I only use one every 2-1/2 or 3 months - and sometimes longer. I really should Henna my hair every 6-8 weeks, but its usually 10-12 unless I have a performance coming up. Gotta look gorgeous for my hundreds of ADORING fans!

Put some baby powder, corn starch, or something similar around the inside edge, put it all together and let it sit until it rains and then drys up. You’ll see tracks in the powder from the water.

This means you do not have an air leak. An air leak would allow water intrusion. An air leak would not allow pressure to build.

It happens in all enclosures. In metal buildings, they use a liner on the inside to channel the water down the sides and to drip out the bottom.

Drill a hole in a corner and mount it so it is angled towards the drain hole. But realize, there is nothing you can do to eliminate the moisture short of vacuum sealing it with argon gas.
