I know this has been discussed ad nauseum but I can’t really find my answer via search.

I can do without the “wtf is wrong with you?” replies so just move along if that’s what you’re feeling.

Just purchased a very clean 04’ LJ. 80k, mostly stock suspension from what I can see. It was set up to be pulled behind an RV. Allegedly had some heavy duty shocks installed. Unsure if springs are OE. Compared to my 01’ sport TJ which rides nice and soft, when the 04’ hits a bump or pot hole it’ll knock your fillings out.

So I’m planning on having either 31x10.5/15 or 265/75/16s put on. I ended up buying some
OME 2” front shocks ( extreme terrain J168913),
OME 2” rear shocks (extreme terrain J168916),
OME 2” light load front springs, and
teraflex 1.25” rear spring spacers.

I intend to have an alignment done after I install everything. Im hoping this gives me some better ride quality, a little level and a bit of room for the new tires. I’m 95% on road weekend garage queen.

Question, what should I be doing with my bump stops front and rear and will I need to address anything else like control arms, track bar, etc..?

Thanks guys.

I should add that I will be keeping stock bumpers but transferring my warn winch from the 01’ over to the 04’. No other big planns. Sidesteps and hardtop. Just for context on weight.

WTF is wrong with you? Sorry, I couldn't help myself.;)
p.s. Why OME shocks? Why OME front springs and just rear spacers and not OME HD springs in the rear?
p.p.s. Do the front end alignment yourself to make sure it's done right.

glad I didn’t have to pay to join the forum. Did you see my questions? Zero attempts…

Do you have Google in MA? So, why make me nauseated with the same old questions that only you can answer by actually doing it to your Jeep? Pirate 4x4 is more suited to your questions IMO. Please try them and post the results.

Well I did state several attempts to solve by search but that lead to confusion. If nobody on here wants to be constructive maybe this forum has reached its useful life and should be shut down. Is that your contention? Or could we keep it as a rolling conversation?

You refuse to answer my simple questions. I doubt other forums have constructive answers without that information. Pirate 4x4 is the friendly site for newbies.
"Question, what should I be doing with my bump stops front and rear and will I need to address anything else like control arms, track bar, etc..?"
Answer= Measure, cycle suspension and write down the numbers.

If I had experience I wouldn’t be on a forum. Is this the level of discourse the moderators/owners like? Users actively discouraging newcomers tapping the knowledge base? Making every thread garbage so people can never find anything. Is that the the rep tjforum wants? Diminishing their base of hobbyist?

I don’t know you, obviously, but my first impresssion is your an ASSHOLE.

Mods -feel free to deep 6 this thread since boogie man decided to ruin it. I’ll delete my account to make him all warm and fuzzy.

I'm the only one to give you advice. You just refuse to take it.

You have a strong tendency to edit your posts. Why not think before you speak. The only thing constructive you added is in bold above. And you added that to make me look like I was overreacting. But I’ll play. I ordered a 1.25” spacer, can I not approximate a 1.25” bump stop extension? Ditto for the 2” springs? Or did I need to disassemble, cycle the suspension, and then place an order for the rest of my parts?

I only edit posts for my spelling errors. They are many.
p.s. I do think before I speak. Otherwise @Chris would have banned me years ago. I'm actually trying to help you with my questions and not being an @$$hole.

When I originally lifted our 2004 LJ , I installed the 2 inch OME front and rear springs . It sat 2 inches higher in the rear so I removed the rear springs and went back to stock springs . It sat about a half inch lower in the rear than the front so I added a 1 inch spacer to the rear . It sat basically level then . After 11 years and adding the winch to the front , it sat about 1 inch lower in the front .

Ours has always rode pretty good . I honestly don't recall what brand of shocks are on it , but I installed the front ones 11 years ago with the lift . The rear were stock . I ran 31.7 inch tires without changing the bump stops , but I didn't do any major rock crawling .

This year , I regeared and lifted the front another inch and put in the OME rear springs along with the rear shocks that I bought 11 years ago . This time I added 2 inches of bump stop to keep from rubbing the rear fenders . With the 31.7 "235/85/16" tires it never rubbed without the bump stop extension .

I have a build write up on here .

Leave your bump stops alone on a pavement princess. Doubt you’ll need to address track bar, if so, just get a relo bracket. control arms will be fine.

He only needs to do something to the bump stops if he does something to the shocks.

I really had to dig through the info on extreme terrain's crappy webstore, but it appears these shocks are part numbers 60046 and 60048. OME offers two different valving options for TJs, and these are the softer riding of the two. I believe that's a wise choice if going with the OME shocks.

Regarding bump stops, the front shock is the same closed length as a stock shock, so no additional bump stop is required there. However, the rear shock's closed length is about 1" longer than the stock shock, so you will need a 1" - 1.25" bump stop extension. To get precise, you would have to pull the springs with the shocks in place, compress the suspension until the shocks bottom, and measure the gap between the lower perch and upper bump stop cup.

Four days on this forum and seven posts, most of them complaining about how you are being treated by mean ol' @TheBoogieman.

Are you sure you're ready for jeep forums? Wait 'til you meet @mrblaine .
