Can this be installed on a 1998 Wrangler? I know the older tops have vents in the side, do I have to get one with vents?

This will work on your 1998. No you don't have to have one with vents. Just might be a little harder to close your door with the window up if you don't have the vents. When they went with the top with no vents, they put the vents in the tailgate.
