Arizona List of Arizona members who like to go off-roading

There were a couple of folks interested in Mt. Lemmon just North of Tucson, I know one of them was @DavidBT from Sierra Vista. We should talk about that soon now that September is here. Thinking about the back road that runs from the Summerhaven area (right by the fire station) down through Peppersauce Canyon and into Oracle. We could start from Oracle and go up, have lunch in Summerhaven then come back down on the paved highway.
Another trip is Reddington Pass and Seven Falls but would be best to wait a bit after the rains have settled down for that one, it can flood there in an instant.
@Chris can you add me to the list in your initial post?

Will do!

Thanks for the mention B1Toad. I'm going to be out of service for awhile until I get my death wobble figured out. Plus, the wife and I are leaving on October 2nd for a three week trip to Mississippi and back through Santa Fe before heading home. I will definitely give updates when my jeep is back on the road.

Hope you get that figured out soon. We can pretty much go anytime except when the snow comes. Even then I have a box of chains but I need to go through them and see if I have some to fit the Jeep.
Are you RVing? We just got back from 10 days in NM. Stayed in Las Vegas, NM. KOA and did day trips with the Jeep, got to see ruins where some of my Spanish ancestors lived in the 1800's.

Three feathers off a reddington pass is worth doing if you haven’t been. It was the first off-roading I did in my Jeep by pure luck if you want to call it that lol. Won’t be anything crazy for you chaps and that area only takes a few minutes to complete.

I usually enter at three feathers and end up going towards Chivas Falls or the NE exit.

We have a 26' travel trailer that I pull with a RAM 1500 Big Horn. My sisters in law have a converted delivery van and we will be traveling together.

Believe it or not I've been in Tucson since 1969, owned half a dozen 4x4s, been off roading all over SW AZ but never went to Reddington. I'm ready.

There's some roads out by Benson I want to try as well, and Pomerine.

I created a shock clearance issue so I can’t descend with my wheels turned until I send my shocks back to CA. It’s super lame I messed things up bc I enjoy wheeling in the desert heat much more than the cold.

I can only do trails or light decents right now so let me know if Benson or Pomerine would work…I’m happy to explore. I enjoy visiting the sanoita and driving through madara canyon area. Charouleau gap near saddlebrook is another fun trail not far from Oracle.

I haven’t gotten down to Benson, Tombstone, or Bisbee yet. I need to do that asap (maybe tomorrow or this weekend).

Maybe I could test the clearance of each side with a friend’s skid steer (it’s gonna be too close to predict). I never tried bc I thought the shock rearrangement mistake would be fixed by now.

Lmk if my compromised rig can handle any trips you have in mind. I’m free tomorrow and this weekend.

We're full this weekend with family stuff. Your rig can probably make it everywhere mine can, I'm all stock and no lift.

Do you think we'd be OK there with all the rain or should we wait for dryer weather?

A guy with 33s and myself crossed deep water two years ago back when the rivers were high and Chivas Falls was pumping from record rains. That was the only time things looked remotely sketchy.

I would not fear water crossings due to the current rains. The trails are fun to do if you haven’t been there before, but the only somewhat exotic spot I’ve seen out there is Three Feathers and it only takes a couple of minutes to get through. And you can bypass three feathers by entering the trail further NE up Reddington pass. It’s a mild trail overall…imo it’s nothing like the rock crawling I’ve seen from other members do.

Edit: they’re options to play around on the west side of reddington pass as well up pass the three feathers entrance that’s on your right (East of the pass). You’ll know you are at the three feathers entrance bc there will be some signs on your right and an old cattle staging area on your left.

Charloughs gap is also fun and isn’t crazy either but you likely need a bit more ground clearance than Reddington if you are gonna run the entire trail which has river bed crossings and rocky hill climbs.

This just made my week. My extended shock fittings don’t hit the tires in full turn so I’m good to go off-roading. :)
