LJ Rubicon with steering wheel Volume Controls?

My 2007 LJR steering wheel was a mess. Gooey and old. I found an EBay seller with reconditioned TJ steering wheels. Great reviews so I bought one. The steering wheel is an exact replacement but it has factory volume controls. My understanding is that US Jeeps in 2006 did not have volume controls although the steering wheels have the indentation for them. Any ideas? Is this a European wheel as the seller is from Europe? How would I hook up the volume control electrical? Thanks for your help!

I've been thinking about this forever and it's about the only thing on the TJ I haven't delved into yet... I'm curious. If aftermarket stereos can make use of steering wheel controls I don't see why this shouldn't be easy to set up

Probably can. My 2005 GMC Sierra has factory stereo controls on the steering wheel, and when I replaced the OE head unit with a Kenwood a few years back, it required a module between the wheel and head unit for the steering wheel controls to continue to function with the new head unit. I imagine they're all similar.
