So I'm going to reopen an old post or posts from years ago when Banks was still selling Turbos for TJs. From my most recent research and the idea of boosting my 4.0 2006 engine with 66,000 miles on it, seems the only options there is; superchargers or turbo. The problem is that the only available companies you have is;

1. Sprintex with supercharger and 5lbs boost, no upgrades other then bigger supercharger.

2. Boosted Tech with their Supercharger setup and 7th injector for cooling.

3. EBay turbo or custom turbo setup with hell of a tuning time on a dino.

The issue;

1. anything you want to tune with a TJ locally is $1000 plus easy at least for me.

2. Sprintex provides an overall tune that you run with no need of changes but is it great and tested? They tell me it is, how does everyone else feel about it I'm 2024. Anyone installing Sprintex this year?

3. Boosted Tech has the setup and cooling to go higher then 5lbs of boost but all over the net you find nothing but mixed feedback, good and bad, bad customer service or bad setup, or good stuff. So it's confusing. Now they offer tunning but once again, some talk trash about it and some praise. Don't want to get stuck with my DD. Little down time is fine but not months because I can't get it tuned.

The turbo setup is nice but the tuning scares me. I'm also confused on many mentions that 2005-2006 handles Turbos and superchargers better without too much tuning, without piggyback stuff.

I'm still doing my research and looking into things, swapping an engine is not on my list so everyone saying swap don't comment lol. I'd love to hear from those that did throw a turbo, supercharger in 2023 or 2024.

Thought, opinions, would love to hear it all before I settle on something and spend the $$. Please don't say turbo is cheaper then supercharger or whatever. I know just looking for good feedback from those that have either one on.

Thanks in advance!

There's @Jezza turbo kit as seen here https://wranglertjforum.com/threads/turbo-kit-test-tj.59685/

What scares you? Turbo vs supercharger does not really matter, they are both a supercharger cramming air. Tuning is just tuning to deal with this extra volume of air and the fuel to support it. When you get into big air/boost, which a stock 4.0 is not going to see, then turbo vs supercharger becomes an issue.

Why not? The best bang-for-the-buck will be a stock LS swap, which likely wouldn't be any harder to do than a competent turbo/supercharger setup.

Please don't say turbo is cheaper then supercharger or whatever.

By the time you're done, you need to expect a competent turbo, supercharger or LS swap to cost around 10,000, so get "cheap" out of your mind.

Wasn't after cheap for one, I understand the costs but I didn't want the stories of some where the TJ isn't drivable because the local shop can't tune it well enough and they are stuck going over and over on dino to tune it at few hundred bucks a pull.

I've got no interest in LS, maybe down the road but for now as long as this young engine is breathing well I'm keeping it, only reason pretty much.

How was tuning it?

Tuning wasn’t bad. My particular PCM firmware was slightly different than later built ‘05’s and 06 so it had an inherent quirk that I needed help with. Once over that hurdle it was fairly straightforward to get it dialed in using HPTuners.

I believe RSI is also offering tuning packages now as well.

Years ago I bought a Jeep with a Rick Rimmer supercharger kit which became Boosted Tech. If you want to do some research he sold them under several different company names including, Rimmer Engineering, Blair Built, Boostech, and Boosted Technologies. Prior to the Jeep kit he was making Subaru kits. The one I had included a liquid to air intercooler which I noticed is missing from their current offering. I wouldn't think that was a good thing. Surprisingly it ran well despite not having any tune or piggyback controller. I ran it for a while and it was OK. It definitely added some power but wasn't like a V8 swap. The more I looked into the kit the less confident I became with it. I ended up just pulling it off and selling it on Ebay. There are several internet forum out there that discuss the different kits. A lot of the older kits are discussed on XJ and Subaru forums.
