Long-time lurker, finally a joiner

Hello, Jeep Folks!

I finally joined up after reading, re-reading, and re-reading again a multitude of forum threads. I've been impressed with all the knowledge here. Kudos to y'all.

I learned to drive on my uncle's 1948 CJ-2A (Luzon Red, I think) and it was my daily driver all through high school. I got known as the guy with the red Jeep, people still ask me if I have it. Well, yes, It's still running, needs a little body work, though.

This picture was about 6 years ago.

Over all these years, I've gone back and forth; get the old Jeep fix it up, drive it; or just get my own. Then this year on a whim I found one out in New Mexico. It was Flame Red. So that was that.

Here it is the day I brought it home, with 102,505 miles on the clock.

Thanks to this forum I've already swapped headlights and fog lights (both Hellas), changed spark plugs, flushed and refilled the radiator, replaced oil and oil filter. Today I drained, cleaned, and refilled both differentials.

Here's where we are; 104,031 miles and counting.

I hope in time, I can add something half as valuable as some of the threads I've already read.

Love that '48! Reminds me of the fellow that lived next door to my grandparents when I was a kid. He had one like that. I drooled all over myself wanting that Jeep.

Thanks all.

Next on the docket is draining and refilling both transmission and transfer case. Then later new shocks, spring, and jounce/bump stops, as all those look to be original too.

The one thing that won me over when I found this Jeep was how stock it is/was; and all in really good shape. Before this I don't think I'd ever seen a vehicle with Ziebart undercoating.

I still think about getting that CJ off my uncle, but it would need to be a true PROJECT-project, if you know what I mean.
