Looking at a 2006 Canadian model Rubicon

But this is why I want your guys opinion. Everyone here is way more knowledgeable than I am.

The pictures I just posted are from an 04 rubi with 135k miles. The guy traded it in because the automatic transmission went out.
The transmission just got rebuilt. This makes me wary also, but again I'm going to ask you guys what you think of the automatic transmissions in the 04 rubicons.
135k miles, and rebuilt auto transmission with the pictures above? Think this might be a good one?

No issues with the 42rle reliability wise as long as you keep it cool. If you plan to tow, or run large tires, or just keep it forever then an auxiliary trans cooler is a good idea. But that's realistically the same answer for any automatic trans. Chances are something happened to that trans during its life that killed it off and that's why it needed the rebuild. Now that it's been rebuilt (provided it was done right) it should last for years and years.

Yea @Drizit , I'm really hoping the transmission was rebuilt correctly, and by someone who knows what they are doing. This is weighing heavy on my brain.
I know that this jeep was a daily driver from a single owner. He bought it from the dealership in 2004 and he was pretty adamant on scheduled maintenance. He's an older gentleman and says it's never been off roaded or abused. (Aren't they all!!! Lol) I tend to believe him tho based off of the extensive maintenance records he has filed in chronological order.
The thing I like most about this jeep is that it's 100% stock, even the tire size. This to me this is everything, I think I might be able to deal with some rust and high mileage if it means I can get a good running bone stock vehicle.

I am worried tho, that the high mileage, and the fact that the tranny has gone out, may be cause for concern. Plus it has lived its whole life in a heavily salted area, this also bothers me.
I want to use this jeep as a daily driver and I really don't want it to live in the shop with something always broken.
We'll see how it pans out I guess.

The mileage isn't that high, honestly a buddy of mine bought one with 380k km and it ran fine.

Now it's not totally stock as someone at some point messed with the locker switches as those are definitely aftermarket.

Where is the jeep? If it's within some reasonable distance of one of the Canadian members perhaps someone could have a closer look for you.

Hey @Drizit , this one I'm talking about in my last post is a different jeep, I'm sorry for the confusion.
This jeep that I mentioned being bone stock is a 2004 rubicon from the US. The pictures I posted of the frame is from this 2004 jeep not the 2006.
I really should have started a different thread on this different jeep. Sorry about that.

Lol no worries, I should have clued into the year.

I'd say ask the seller if he can get some pictures through the hole in the frame just by the rear wheels so you can see how much rust or general crud is in there. If you just see the metal walls of the tube with no pile of crap at the bottom of the dogleg then it's probably worth getting a plane ticket to go see. Although in my market at least that's LJ money and that's before a 30% exchange rate so the price gives me a bit of sticker shock.

The 04 jeep is 10 hours away from me. (Driving)
And the 06 from Canada that I originally posted about is 4 hours away.
I did find another 2006 I like a lot, but it's got a lift kit and bigger tires on it, it's 3.5 hours away from me.
I'm really thinking about taking a trip up to check out the 04 jeep. I really wish it wasn't so darn far away. If I drive 10 hours and it's not what it's supposed to be, I'd be real mad. Lol

I will ask for some detailed pictures of the under side of the 2006 Canadian model and post them if I can. This one says it's been bead blasted and undercoated. They tell me it's good to go with no issues, and does come with a bit of a warranty.

But, yea. The prices of these tj rubies are killing me! There is a 2005 lj here locally at a lot for 16k and it's absolutely beat to hell. People are crazy about the price of old jeeps here. Lol
