New Jersey Looking for frame rust repair in NJ

$500 for the kit I posted.

Now let's say for argument's sake I paid $700 for this thing. There's no rust on the tub (I got under there an looked), the body is also free of rust (rockers, fenders, windshield, motor mounts, etc...all the usual suspects). The interior is MINT. Yes there's high mileage but the clutch is new, as are the brakes. Engine is strong, purrs like a kitten and isn't leaking. The Goddamn AC even works. Plus the original paint is in fantastic shape. Do you really mean to tell me that dumping $2500, or even $3k into this frame isn't worth it? IDK about your parts of the country but around here even rusted out shitbox YJ's are fetching $2-$3k.
Yeah, different markets. Nobody around here would even consider repairing that frame. I guess it may make sense in your market to repair it vs replace. 🤷🏼‍♂️

You’ve got a 2.5-3” gap in your frame? That’s not good. Sounds like you have a good quote. I don’t think you’ll find much cheaper than that. Would I buy one like that? No because rust free ones are out there and the last thing I want to do is do a frame repair. Not trying to bust your balls at all...nobody is, but that’s the worst frame I’ve seen on this forum. No joke

Of course in a perfect world a frame replacement is ideal. However I knew going into this that wasn't going to happen. Regardless of the shape it's in I feel like I got an extremely good deal. I'd also like to add that this will not be a daily driver. It will be something to have a little fun with in the summer and take on the beach a few times. I don't see myself doing any true off roading other than that. Wintertime it will be used whenever there is snow (we had none at all this year). If it lasts a few years then so be it - at that point I've had my fun and maybe part it out if it becomes truly FUBAR. I just need to get this damn thing road worthy, that's all. For me, the juice seemed worth the squeeze.

I know no one in New Jersey. I also don't think any welder who knew what they were doing would want to repair that frame.

No one is trying to be rude or insulting. We're trying to offer you good advice, and you're simply not wanting to listen to it.

I have nothing more to share, therefore I will butt out of this thread entirely. I hope you find someone you'll listen to that will tell you what we're all trying to tell you.

Wasn't looking for cheaper - was looking for closer.

Would someone be willing to explain to me why this kit that I posted wouldn't work? Or are you guys suggesting it will work but it's not worth the price in labor.

That kit is designed as a glove to be welded over and onto your existing frame. There is a point in time where there is just too little existing frame to weld to.

Welp, 2 months later and repair is done! With a little bit of research I was able to locate Justin @ Morfab Industries in Wallingford, CT (authorized Safe T Cap installer) who was more than happy to take on the job. After seeing his youtube channel and how he's a Jeep frame repair specialist it was a no brainer. He did an AMAZING job - $2k later and I have a frame that is good as new. For a $3k total investment so far into the TJ itself and the frame repair I couldn't be happier. Especially since $3k anywhere within a 5 hour radius of here doesn't get you a Jeep in anywhere near this condition!

For you nay-sayers, I invite you to check out the video of the repair (fast forward to the 4:00 mark).

That's awesome man, I actually watched the video a while back, then came across this thread and had a deja vu moment. Amazing work, I ended up selling my 97' which needed frame repair rather than attempt to get it welded. It had already been patched in one area and I sold it and moved on to driving my LJ instead. The next owner tore everything apart and rebuilt it.

Those kits are great but you need someone who is a good welder to do it. Most professional people won't do it even though I technically can't find any law saying you can't do frame patchwork on heavy corroded examples. Obviously doesn't beat having a solid frame to begin with, but in New Jersey and New York we don't live in an ideal place for jeep preservation. You were dealt the hand you were given and you pulled through. :)

Greetings from the birthplace of Baseball & Sinatra!!!

I picked up my first Jeep yesterday, a 1997 TJ (Sahara) with 180k on it. I've been looking for a Wrangler for about a year now and I did a decent amount of research so I somewhat knew what to look for. This beauty is originally from NY and had 1 owner prior to the guy I bought it from who had it only a few months. Turns out the body and tub are somehow in fantastic shape for it's age (fenders, floorboards, rockers all solid) but the frame is in pretty bad shape - especially on the drivers side.

I knew going into this I would have a major repair on my hands right out the gate, but the price was right and with the condition outside the frame I couldn't pass it up. However, now I find myself in need of a welder who's had some experience in repairing these things. I figure I'd source the parts needed from Pocono (spoke with them today). I'd like to do the drivers side ASAP as I believe I can get away with the passenger side as-is for another year (it's in much better shape).

Can anyone recommend a shop here in NJ/NY that can handle this for me and not whack me over the head on price? I've attached pics of the rot

All input is appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

-JT

Call Oskar in linden he specializes in frame repair

I got a quote of $2000 to do both sides. Seemed very reasonable to me but like I said, he's out in PA. I was hoping to find someone closer.
Hello, I was wondering if you actually found someone who helped you out? I am from Jersey as well and dealing with something similar. Thanks.
